We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.About This RoleAs part of Intersect’s Engineering team, you’ll help design and deliver utility-scale battery energy storage systems that enable reliable, scalable clean energy infrastructure. This role brings together system design, performance modeling, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-performing energy storage assets integrate seamlessly with generation and grid systems. You’ll play a key role in advancing projects from concept through execution, contributing to long-term decarbonization outcomes.Team OverviewThis team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the renewable energy transition by designing and delivering high-impact energy infrastructure at scale. Joining this team means collaborating with experts across disciplines while contributing to projects that shape the future of energy.What You’ll DoDesign and Optimize Energy Storage SystemsLead a BESS project life cycle from land acquisition to CODSupport technical negotiations with the BESS OEM, EPCs and their subcontractorsDesign and size utility-scale battery energy storage systems to meet project performance and reliability targetsDevelop and refine performance models to optimize system efficiency and long-term outputIntegrate storage systems with generation assets to ensure seamless operation and grid compatibilityDevelop Power Systems and InfrastructureBuild and validate medium-voltage infrastructure calculation tools for large-scale energy projectsSupport power plant design aligned with electrical and safety standardsApply engineering best practices to ensure safe, scalable, and compliant system architectureCollaborate to Deliver High-Impact ProjectsPartner with cross-functional teams across engineering, development, and execution to bring projects to lifeContribute technical expertise to support decision-making across project lifecycle stagesHelp deliver reliable, high-performance storage solutions that align with long-term infrastructure goalsWhat You’ll BringBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is mandatory, a M.S.EE or PhD is preferred3–7 years of experience in energy storage, power generation, or similar industries; experience with independent power producers will help you succeedHands-on experience designing or supporting utility-scale energy storage or large-scale power systemsStrong understanding of grid integration and power systems engineering principlesExpertise in BESS sizing, system design, and performance modelingExperience developing medium-voltage infrastructure models and supporting large-scale plant designFamiliarity with lithium-ion battery systems, particularly LFP chemistry for stationary applicationsWorking knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and other applicable electrical and safety standardsExperience with modeling tools such as PSCAD, ETAP, or similar platformsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex technical requirementsEstablished connections within the energy storage ecosystem, including OEMs, EPC firms, or power producers, will help you succeedUnderstanding of energy markets, project development cycles, and performance optimization strategies will help you succeedA collaborative, detail-oriented work style that enables success in fast-paced, cross-functional environmentsCuriosity, adaptability, and a grounded approach to solving complex engineering challengesA commitment to technical excellence, safety, and building infrastructure with long-term impact, aligned with Intersect’s core valuesTotal RewardsCompensation: $180,000 to $200,000 (total compensation includes base salary + bonus in USD)Equity: Beyond your salary, you’ll receive an Equity Grant, giving you a meaningful stake in our parent company.Health & wellness: 100% premium coverage for you and your dependents on medical, dental, and visionTime to recharge: Unlimited PTO, plus two company-wide breaks (Fourth of July & end of year)Family support: Up to 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, plus 6 additional weeks for birth parents; access to family planning and family care support through Carrot and MavenMental health: Free access to Spring Health, including 5 free therapy and psychiatry sessions, plus a Headspace account for mindfulness and meditation through our physical health vendor, Wellhub+Perks & extras: $150 monthly food stipend, $150 monthly reimbursement for cell phone and internet, pet insurance allowance, full home office setup, free access to UrbanSitter with $625 in quarterly company-paid credits, ActiveHero, and One MedicalIntersect maintains a work environment free from discrimination, one where all employees are treated with dignity and respect.
