Information Security ManagerLocation: Silver Spring, MD – 4 Days Onsite / 1 Day RemoteEmployment Type: Full-Time / Direct HirePosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Information Security Manager to lead a team of security engineers and drive the continued maturity of an enterprise security environment. This is a hands-on technical leadership position requiring deep Microsoft Azure security expertise, proven people leadership, and the ability to independently lead security initiatives from strategy and planning through implementation.The successful candidate will combine strong security engineering experience with the executive presence needed to communicate effectively with senior leadership. This individual will be expected to proactively identify opportunities for improvement, optimize security technologies and processes, develop engineers, and deliver results with limited oversight.Key ResponsibilitiesLead, mentor, and develop a team of Information Security Engineers, providing technical direction, coaching, and day-to-day leadership.Maintain a hands-on role in the design, implementation, configuration, and optimization of enterprise security technologies.Lead security engineering initiatives across Microsoft Azure, Entra ID/Active Directory, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, Intune, Conditional Access, identity, endpoints, networks, and cloud environments.Independently own security projects from initial planning and requirements gathering through implementation, integration, and ongoing optimization.Develop project plans, establish priorities, coordinate resources, and ensure security initiatives are delivered successfully.Proactively evaluate existing security technologies and processes and identify opportunities for improvement, automation, integration, and increased effectiveness.Drive the installation, upgrade, configuration, and integration of security tools across the enterprise environment.Review security architecture and technical configurations to identify risks and recommend appropriate remediation.Oversee vulnerability identification, prioritization, remediation, and risk-management activities.Integrate threat intelligence and security monitoring capabilities into the broader security program.Partner closely with infrastructure, networking, application, IT operations, and other technology teams.Manage relationships and technical initiatives involving security vendors, consultants, and third-party technology partners.Support incident response, technical investigations, and remediation efforts as needed.Lead and participate in meetings with executives and senior leadership, translating complex technical security issues into clear business risks and recommendations.Continuously evaluate the security environment and proactively identify opportunities to strengthen the organization's overall security posture.Required Qualifications10+ years of cybersecurity and/or security engineering experience, including direct hands-on experience deploying, implementing, and optimizing enterprise security technologies.Strong hands-on Microsoft Azure security engineering experience.Deep experience with the Microsoft security ecosystem, including Entra ID/Active Directory, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, Intune, and Conditional Access.Candidates whose cloud security experience is primarily or exclusively AWS-based without substantial hands-on Azure experience will not be a fit for this position.4+ years of experience managing security engineers, with demonstrated success developing and mentoring technical teams.Proven ability to independently own complex security projects, drive process and technology improvements, and deliver outcomes without requiring significant day-to-day oversight.Experience implementing, upgrading, integrating, and optimizing enterprise security tools.Strong understanding of security engineering, cloud security, IAM, network security, vulnerability management, security operations, and incident response.Excellent executive-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to confidently lead meetings and present security risks and recommendations to senior leadership.Proactive, solutions-oriented approach with the ability to operate independently and take ownership of security initiatives.Experience working in a regulated environment is important. Financial services or banking experience is preferred; federal government or other highly regulated industry experience will also be considered.Ability to work onsite in Silver Spring, MD four days per week.Top 3 Must-Haves1. Hands-On Azure Security Engineering10+ years of cybersecurity/security engineering experience with direct experience deploying and optimizing security tools. Strong Microsoft Azure security expertise, including Entra ID/AD, Sentinel, Defender, Intune, and Conditional Access, is required.2. Proven Technical Leadership4+ years managing security engineers, ideally with demonstrated stability leading and developing a team over multiple years. Must be capable of independently owning projects, improving tools and processes, developing engineers, and driving initiatives through completion.3. Executive-Level Communication & PresenceMust be a strong communicator who can confidently lead executive-level discussions and collaborate across IT, security, vendors, and senior leadership. The successful candidate will be proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable operating independently.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a hands-on security engineering leader rather than a purely administrative or GRC-focused manager. This individual has progressed through technical security roles into leadership while maintaining strong technical depth, particularly within the Microsoft Azure security ecosystem.They will bring the combination of technical credibility, people leadership, proactive project ownership, and executive presence needed to lead a security engineering team and continuously improve a complex enterprise security environment.
