OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Technical Lead Software Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area or in our Cary, NC office. This role will help shape the embedded platforms that power our Marine products for which performance, reliability, and innovation matter. In this role, you’ll combine deep embedded Linux expertise, system architecture, and technical leadership to deliver solutions that perform flawlessly.Essential FunctionsProvide technical leadership and architectural direction across marine product platforms and embedded systems Serve as a Lead Software Engineer on major initiatives, especially those involving new technologies or expanding marine capabilitiesDrive designs that balance performance, reliability, and security in embedded environmentsCommonize software technologies used across a wide range of embedded productResponsible for providing key technical contributions for major new products and/or applications including software development in C, C++Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced software engineers (Software Engineer 1 & 2 & Senior Software Engineers)Work with software vendors to integrate externally developed deliverables into projects, as requiredEvaluate new technologies, features and functions and offer suggestionsOffer process improvement suggestions and author new procedures as appropriateApply extensive technical expertise and analysis to all assigned projects and resolve complex problemsProvide significant contribution to software reviews across multiple product and/or application typesBasic QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experienceDemonstrated experience in serving as the lead software engineer for projects in new markets or relying heavily on new technologiesDemonstrated experience with architecting solutions for multiple groups and/or disciplinesDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsMust be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environmentDesired QualificationsOutstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Demonstrated experience in configuring and building custom Linux distributions with the Yocto ProjectDemonstrated knowledge of Linux services and inter-process communicationsProficiency in python and shell scriptsGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
