Macro / Equity Strategist - U.S. Consumer Focus (VP or Director)

Fl SearchBrooklyn, NYMay 20th, 2026
F&L Search is working with a highly regarded independent macro team seeking to hire a Consumer Strategist focused on the intersection of the U.S. consumer, macro trends and equity markets (single name consumer stocks). The role is best suited to a macro strategist, equity strategist or market-oriented economist with genuine experience translating consumer and economic developments into investable equity conclusions. The successful candidate will own and publish a recurring institutional Consumer Strategy product for a sophisticated client base made up primarily of hedge funds and long-only asset managers. The position combines macro interpretation, thematic investing and equity market analysis. The successful candidate will need to speak credibly about sectors, industries and single stocks - not simply broad economic themes. This is not a private wealth, advisory or media-oriented role. The emphasis is on sophisticated institutional research, differentiated investment thinking and high-quality communication with professional investors. The team is highly collaborative, but the successful candidate will be expected to own the publication and cadence. The role requires someone capable of independently producing differentiated institutional research on a regular basis. Responsibilities Own and publish recurring thematic consumer research for institutional investors. Analyse labour market, inflation, housing, spending, credit and demographic trends and their implications for equities. Translate macro and consumer developments into sector, basket and stock-level investment conclusions. Produce differentiated thematic work across consumer discretionary, staples, retail, restaurants and related industries. Generate investment ideas using economic, company and market data. Present investment views clearly and credibly to institutional investors. Work collaboratively with senior strategists on the broader investment process. Ideal Background Experience in macro strategy, equity strategy, economics or related institutional research. Strong understanding of the U.S. consumer and its relevance to equity markets. Ability to connect macro themes to specific sectors, industries and stocks. Experience communicating with institutional equity investors. Strong institutional writing ability. Comfortable combining data, narrative and investment judgement into clear investment conclusions. Market-oriented mindset with genuine interest in consumer sectors and equities. Candidates coming from pure economics or macro backgrounds should demonstrate clear familiarity with consumer sectors, stocks and institutional equity investing. Exceptional writing quality, communication skills and intellectual judgement are critical for the role. #J-18808-Ljbffr
