Other duties may be assigned.Handles lines, ratchets, cables and wenches as needed to tie up vessel to another vessel, or rig, barge, or towSweeps and washes decksLowers and man's lifeboat in case of emergenciesMay stand watches while underwayLoads or unloads groceries and other supplies needed for the boatCarries rigging, water hoses and pumps to areas needed on boat or towMaintenance: Includes painting, chipping structures on boat as neededLubricates machinery and equipmentSplices and repairs cables and ropesExamines cables that hold vessels in tow and tightens cables to ensure vessels are snugFollows all rules of safety.Working knowledge of all equipment on dredgeAbility to operate dredge.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees including helping pilot land tow via radio.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fraction and decimals.REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and/or oral instructions.
