The Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United NationsThe Permanent Mission of the UAE has been an integral part of the UN community since the founding of the UAE in 1971. The Mission contributes to the important work of the United Nations at all levels. Job Summary The Political Researcher provides critical support to Mission diplomats by conducting research, drafting statements, and preparing briefing materials on Middle East affairs. Key Responsibilities Drafting:· Draft talking points, briefs, and background documents in English and Arabic for the UAE Ambassador, senior diplomats, and high-level officials for bilateral meetings and multilateral conferences, ensuring accuracy and consistency with UAE policy language.· Prepare interventions, statements, and speeches for delivery at the UN Security Council, General Assembly, and other UN forums on behalf of the UAE or the Arab Group.· Draft internal reports and cables to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Abu Dhabi, summarizing UN developments, diplomatic engagements, and recommended positions on assigned files.· Draft and review correspondence, including letters, memoranda, and invitations related to assigned portfolios.· Assist in crafting media materials such as press releases, media lines, quotes, and social media content as required. Research: · Develop and maintain deep expertise on assigned thematic files, tracking ongoing policy developments at the UN Security Council, General Assembly, and relevant UN bodies.· Monitor and analyze sources of information including UN journals, Secretary-General reports, IAEA reports, Security Council Report publications, International Crisis Group analyses, media, and communications from other missions and UN offices.· Prepare comprehensive background briefing documents for high-level engagements, including UNGA High-Level Week and ministerial visits.· Track the positions and voting patterns of key Security Council members and regional groupings on assigned files to inform UAE diplomatic strategy. Competencies· Understanding of the issues at the UN General Assembly and the Security Council.· Resourceful, proactive, and knowledgeable researcher· Clear, concise writing skills· Deep knowledge of Middle East political dynamics, particularly the Palestine/Israel conflict, Gulf security, Yemen, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Iran, and Lebanon.· Excellent analytical and writing skills in both English and Arabic, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and diplomatically calibrated documents under tight deadlines. Education and Experience· Fluency in English and Arabic (written and spoken) is required.· Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree/Maters degree is a plus · 2-5 years of professional research experience preferred.
