POSITION OVERVIEW DEFTEC Corporation is seeking a strategic writing coach shall provide insight, context, subject matter information, and editing to the student in preparation of all written and oral academic requirements. Each Coach shall provide academic criticism and participate to improve the student's ability to write cogently and clearly, will evaluate and provide feedback to their assigned students on their written work and oral presentation. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The SWC shall provide feedback to their assigned students on the composition, grammar, content and clarity of student written assignments and oral summaries-notes (course work) within 48 hours of written and oral academic requirements. They are to participate with students in the development and preparation for student deliverable/ course requirements (i.e. papers; summaries-notes; oral presentation; interviews, testimony; experiential exercises) by providing/ recommending appropriate procedural and formatting methods to facilitate achieving objectives. They are also to provide reviews, summaries, and other documentation to benefit student understanding or knowledge on subject matter relevant to their writing topic or course content. To meet both the written and oral academic oversight objectives, the writing coach must understand the course material and be able to provide cogent advice as well as resource material to participate with the students in the preparation of their academic work. Each student will individually produce academic work (IAW the published individual Course Guide(s)) in both writing and via oral presentations. The written and oral products cover the gambit of strategic communications including Op-eds, articles, papers, memorandums, individual and panel presentations of foundational material. The written and oral products consist of question-and-answer sessions and participation in practical exercise(s) and/or small group breakout sessions with program participants. Feeback shall be given with 48 hours of student contact with the SWC. Student pre-requisites require the preparation of draft Op-ed papers over the 4 weeks (approximately 30 days) prior to the resident phase and complete the final Op-ed paper within those 3 weeks (approximately 20 days) of the course. The strategic writing coach shall work in concert with an assigned Strategic Coach-Mentor and other USAWC faculty to formulate an evaluation and developmental team to participate in the improvement of student writing/ compositing and oral presentation summaries-notes. The course curriculum and learning objectives cover senior leadership and U.S. Government, academic and business. The SWC must possess a high level of proficient knowledge on these subject areas and current strategic challenges to the national and global security environments to adequately advise, teach and coach students on the successful development and completion of the course academic requirements. To meet both the written and oral academic oversight objectives, the writing coach must understand the course material and be able to provide cogent advice as well as resource material to participate with the students in the preparation of their academic work. Interacts with course participants to moderate discussions, provide advice, and promote communication, to enhance their learning experience in congress and in small breakout sessions, together with facilitators from the USAWC staff and faculty. note significant variances in perspectives between breakout group discussions, presenting them consistently to the entire body for consideration in broadening participants' outlook regarding presentations. Lead a wrap up session with participants on the application of program lessons to their development and preparation to more effectively serve as key advisors for general officers and DA civilian leaders. Participate with the ASEP faculty (to include retired 3- or 4-star flag officers/coach/mentor as well as the ASEP director and course director) in assessing course outcomes and make recommendations for further development of the program. Upon completion of each course, submit a formal report of these assessments and recommendations through the Course Director. Participate in the entirety of the pre-course work period and resident phase of the Course. The SWC shall support an assigned group of general officers attending the Course. The intended ratio is as low as 7-10 students per SWC, for Lot 1 ASEP-A. The intended ratio is a max of 20 students per SCW for Lot 4 NLC. Participate with the student in the collection or production of products/ relevant information and data to be used by the student(s) to develop and prepare a written (persuasive) strategic paper, oral arguments, or briefs (presentation) and other course work as requested by their assigned students. The collection or production of data and information used in the development of course work will relate (but is not limited) to strategic subject matter outlined in the scope. Communicate, correspond, and participate with their students in both the pre-course phase and resident phase to execute their duties. Communications may include telephonic, e-mail, and/ or face to face meetings. The government anticipates the pre-course contact with students to be predominantly via e-mail. The SWC shall be provided an army.mil email address by the Government to ensure they can execute their duties via e-mail. Be available for face-to-face meetings throughout the Period of Performance. Communicate/ correspond/coordinate and plan with their assigned Strategic Coach-Mentor, as needed, in both the pre-course and resident course phases to formulate the writing support team. Attend a pre-course planning/ coordination meeting prior to each course IAW Period of Performance to conduct a review of learning plans and individual learning objectives for the written and oral course requirements with their team lead, the Strategic Coach, and Faculty. The WG shall consume an eight (8) hour workday. Attend a course "Hot Wash/ AAR" with the Course Director and faculty at the conclusion of each course IAW Period of Performance and offer oral feedback / recommendations for further development of the course/program. Provide feedback and make recommendations for further development of the course/program in writing via memorandum, letter, or email to be delivered at the "Hot Wash/ AAR". QUALIFICATIONS: Required Qualifications: Candidate possesses a master's degree from accredited graduate degree granting institutions, in any discipline and DoD Senior Service College (SSC) graduation or SSC Fellowship MEL 1 equivalent. Candidate must possess a minimum one year of experience in Produced written academic writing (paper, research report and/or appropriate publication) at the strategic level within the past 5 years. Which is defined as published peer-reviewed academic writing (paper, research report and/or appropriate publication) at the strategic level (ex. historical and theoretical approaches to modern warfare, contemporary security, defense policy, modern strategy, civil-military relations) The ability to collect and/or participant in the gathering of information and data to be used for the development and preparation of an academic writing, or publication, or presentation; and the ability/experience to conduct archival research and current literature searches; use of basic research methods and techniques (e.g. bibliographic surveys, specialized library research, historical document research, contacting US government agencies and/or international agencies for information, etc.); and the ability to perform specialized searches to provide written or oral synopses of the information available and to suggest further searches Minimum one year of experience in faculty experience supervising and grading written graduate level or Military Education Level (MEL) 1 work. Knowledge of the subject matters; international relations, US security policy, national policy formulation, civil-military relations, defense policy, national military strategy, force management and theater-level or higher military operations; strategic organizations, staffs or military enterprises. Knowledge of the subject matters; Familiarity of Operational and strategic levels of war, joint and interagency operations, appropriate service and joint concepts. Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the foregoing, candidate will have a PhD, and DoD Senior Service College (SSC) graduation or SSC Fellowship MEL 1 equivalent, awards, teaching citations, service awards and/or academic promotion as well as multiple years of teaching experience at a Senior Service College, (or other accredited, degree granting institution of higher learning) Candidate has more than 5 years' experience in produced written academic writing (paper, research report and/or appropriate publication) at the strategic level within the past 5 years. Which is defined as published peer-reviewed academic writing (paper, research report and/or appropriate publication) at the strategic level (ex. historical and theoretical approaches to modern warfare, contemporary security, defense policy, modern strategy, civil-military relations) Candidate has more than 5 years' experience in performed research for academic or applied work at the strategic level Candidate has more than 5 years' experience in faculty experience supervising and grading written graduate level or Military Education Level (MEL) 1 work. Candidate has more than 5 years' experience in the subject matters; international relations, US security policy, national policy formulation, civil-military relations, defense policy, national military strategy, force management and theater-level or higher military operations; strategic organizations, staffs or military enterprises. Candidate has more than 5 years' experience in subject matters; Familiarity of Operational and strategic levels of war, joint and interagency operations, appropriate service and joint concepts.
