Electrical Estimator
Purpose:
The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive electrical cost estimates for projects, ensuring profitability while aligning with customer expectations and Company capabilities. This role collaborates closely with Project Managers, and electrical field teams to analyze electrical scope, drawings, and specifications and to develop effective pricing strategies. The Electrical Estimator plays a key role in driving business success by ensuring bids are precise, competitive, and aligned with operational capacity and electrical code requirements.
Responsibilities:
Electrical Estimating & Cost Analysis –
Analyze electrical project specifications, drawings, schedules, and REQs to determine electrical scope and pricing requirements; calculate material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs for electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, controls, grounding, and low-voltage systems as applicable; utilize historical data, takeoffs, and industry benchmarks to develop competitive electrical estimates; ensure all estimates are accurate, comprehensive, code-compliant, and submitted on time. Site visits to provide accurate estimations are often necessary.
Collaboration & Leadership –
Work closely with Project Managers, and electrical field teams to ensure estimates reflect actual installation methods, labor productivity, and material availability; when applicable, take a leadership role in coordinating estimating efforts with electrical crews to ensure feasibility and efficiency; clearly communicate electrical cost assumptions, exclusions, and timeline expectations to internal teams and customers.
Proposal Development –
Prepare detailed electrical bid proposals, ensuring clarity in scope, inclusions, exclusions, pricing, and terms; identify potential electrical risks such as material lead times, labor constraints, or design gaps and recommend pricing adjustments or contingency plans; participate in bid reviews and negotiations with customers, general contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Process Improvement & Cost Control –
Continuously refine electrical estimating procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency; monitor actual electrical job costs versus estimates and identify areas for improvement; work with purchasing and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing on electrical materials, equipment, and fixtures.
Market & Industry Awareness –
Stay up to date on electrical material costs, labor rates, code changes, and market trends; develop and maintain relationships with electrical vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, and key stakeholders; monitor competitor pricing and market conditions to refine electrical estimating strategies.
Safety & Code Compliance –
Follow all Company, OSHA, and industry safety protocols; ensure electrical estimates account for safety requirements, code compliance (NEC and local codes), and proper installation practices.

Knowledge & Skills:
Strong understanding of electrical estimating methodologies and cost analysis
Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, one-lines, schematics, and specifications
Knowledge of electrical materials, equipment, installation methods, and labor costs
Familiarity with NEC and applicable local electrical codes
Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Effective communication and negotiation skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines, with excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while preparing estimates
Occasional site visits may require standing, walking, climbing, stooping, and bending
Ability to review electrical materials, equipment, and installation methods in the field, shop, or jobsite environments
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent; degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or related field preferred
2+ years of experience in electrical estimating, preferably in commercial, industrial, or construction services
Experience with electrical estimating software and project management tools
Knowledge of electrical field operations, installation workflows, and coordination with other trades
Understanding of cost control, procurement, scheduling, and labor productivity principles
