Billing Manager

Robert Half working on a search for a well-established client for a Billing Manager. The Billing Manager is responsible for overseeing all billing operations for construction projects, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant invoicing. This role partners closely with project managers, accounting, and clients to manage progress billings, contracts, change orders, lien waivers, and collections while maintaining strong internal controls and positive client relationships.Key ResponsibilitiesManage the end-to-end billing process for construction projects, including progress billing, cost-plus, AIA billing, time & materials, and lump-sum contractsReview and prepare monthly invoices based on approved schedules of values, contracts, and change ordersEnsure compliance with contract terms, lien laws, and client-specific billing requirementsOversee and mentor billing staff; establish best practices and workflowsCoordinate with project managers to resolve billing discrepancies, retainage, and change ordersMonitor billing schedules, collections, and accounts receivable agingPrepare lien waivers, releases, and other required documentationCollaborate with accounting on revenue recognition and month-end closeRespond to client billing inquiries and resolve disputes professionally and efficientlySupport audits and provide billing documentation as neededContinuously improve billing accuracy, efficiency, and reportingQualifications5+ years of billing or accounting experience, preferably within the construction industryExperience working with contracts, change orders, and lien waiversPrior experience leading or supervising billing staff Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, Spectrum, or similar)Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detailExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsPreferred SkillsUnderstanding of revenue recognition and job cost accountingAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environmentProcess improvement mindset with strong organizational skills
