Role: Senior Mechanical Design EngineerLocation: Westminster, MD 21157Duration: 06+ Months (Possible extension)Pay rate: $64.75/hr on W2 Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – (Mission Systems Division, US)client delivers pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and software solutions supporting space and aviation customers—from astronauts to commercial aircraft operators. This role supports research and new product development within the Mission Systems Division (MSD), focusing on design, analysis, risk management, and cross-functional coordination. The engineer often serves as a technical leader for major projects or multiple smaller programs.Key Responsibilities:Execute product design activities aligned with project cost and schedule.Develop conceptual designs into mature, certifiable product solutions.Identify, prioritize, and mitigate technical risks; implement data-driven design changes.Create engineering standards and design guides that support continuous improvement.Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles, manage CTQs, and ensure design robustness.Collaborate with internal/external customers, suppliers, project/test/sustainment/manufacturing/quality engineers, COEs, and program management.Support research, development, testing, and certification activities in a fast-paced environment.Mentor and coach junior engineers within the relevant domain.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.Minimum 3+ years in system/product design, development, or production problem resolution.Required Skills & Experience:Technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration.Ability to work independently with guidance from senior technical leaders.Strong written and verbal communication.SolidWorks 3D CAD proficiency; strong GD&T and drawing standards understanding.Experience with several of the following:Aerospace NPI methods, regulatory standards, and certificationsDFSS / APQP toolsFailure investigationsHigh-pressure pneumatic or hydraulic systemsValve design and sealing technologiesStatic/dynamic seal designStress analysis (static, dynamic, fatigue, vibration)Steady-state and dynamic performance modelingElectromagnetics (solenoid/latch valves)Control systems and thermodynamicsPreferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.DFSS Green Belt or Black Belt.
