Test Engineer I
Overview
As a Test Engineer in Textron Systems’ Sea Systems, you will help advance unmanned surface vehicle technology by designing and executing tests for hardware, software, and systems. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and reliability across development stages, from planning to field validation. You’ll contribute to disruptive autonomy initiatives that enhance mission capabilities, collaborating with engineers, program managers, and customers. This role offers hands-on testing, integration, and validation within a fast-paced defense-focused environment.

ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and execute tests for hardware, software, and systems to ensure quality and meet specificationsCreate detailed test plans, objectives, and resource definitionsDevelop test cases and scripts for functional, performance, and security testingExecute tests, monitor processes, and manage controlled testing environmentsIdentify, document, and track defects; collaborate on fixesProvide feedback to improve processes and quality standardsPrepare and present test engineering results to internal reviews and customersInteract daily with technical leads, program managers, technicians, and engineersDrive tasks to completion with supervision and mentoringCollaborate with cross-department teams and customers
Key requirements0–2 years of project leadership experience preferredExperience with hardware and/or software integration, requirements derivation and allocation, or architecture designBachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering (software, mechanical, electrical, systems)Exposure to lifecycle testing of Ground Vehicle products or related programsRequirements analysis, design review support, validation planning, test, verification, risk management, and engineering analysisExperience presenting test work products to internal and external stakeholdersDaily interaction with government and commercial customersExperience with Windows and/or Unix is a plusStrong writing and presentation skillsExperience with DOORS, JIRA, and MagicDraw (strongly preferred)Microsoft Office proficiencyAbility to travel up to 25%Active Secret Clearance preferred; Secret eligibility requiredeffective written communicationpresentation skillscollaborationtest planning and designtest case development and scriptingdefect management
