TEXAS LEADERSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Job Title: Bus Driver
Department: Operations
Reports To: Transportation Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE:
All Bus Drivers are to ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned routes. Operate school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated locations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Vehicle Operation
Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules
Perform daily safety and maintenance checks and keep supervisory informed of any issues
Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures. Compile required reports
Perform minor maintenance duties and keep assigned bus clean and fueled
Student Management
Take student attendance on the school bus
See that student’s board and leave the bus, and cross the street in a safe and orderly manner.
Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations
Maintain discipline; Communicate with teachers and parents on a regular basis regarding student behavior while on bus
Safety
Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses
Maintain all emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar and reflector.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisory of any conditions that are not correctable immediately
Install snow chains during inclement weather
Other
Properly communicate with transportation office
Operate bus during irregular hours as needed
Keep safety certification current through training programs required
Be honest, trustworthy and respectful
Demonstrate sound work ethics and cultural sensitivity
Be flexible
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License and outstanding driving record
Must possess a valid Texas School Bus Driving Safety certificate
Must have an up to date medical physical
Required Knowledge of:
Highway and school bus regulations
How to deal with the various needs of children
Scheduling and record keeping system
Required Skill in:
Analytical and problem solving
Time management
Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
Work requires sitting for long periods of time
Intense concentration is required, particularly in poor driving conditions
Position Type:Full-Time
Salary:$20 to $24 Per Hour
