Job Description Job Posting TitleCounselorJob DescriptionJob Description: Guidance CounselorLocation: Boxelder Job Corps - Nemo, SDEmployment Type: Full-Time - 7:30-4:00 or 8:00-4:30 Monday-FridayAbout the RoleThe Guidance Counselor at Boxelder Job Corps Center - Nemo SD, plays a critical role in supporting the academic, career, emotional, and social development of students ages 16–24. This position provides individualized counseling, student advocacy, and program coordination to help students successfully complete training and transition into employment or higher education.The counselor collaborates with instructors, residential staff, wellness teams, and administration to create a safe, structured, and supportive environment that promotes student success, accountability, and personal growth.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Education, or related fieldExperience working with adolescents or young adults in an educational, behavioral, or counseling settingStrong knowledge of counseling principles, student development, and ethical standardsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work with diverse student populationsPreferred QualificationsExperience in residential or Job Corps–style environmentsMulticultural counseling experienceTraining in crisis intervention or trauma-informed careFamiliarity with student information systems or case management softwareAdditional certifications in counseling or youth servicesKey ResponsibilitiesProvide individual and group counseling for academic, career, and personal developmentSupport student retention, behavior management, and goal settingCollaborate with staff to identify and assist at-risk studentsMaintain accurate case notes and confidential student recordsProvide crisis intervention and appropriate referralsConduct workshops on life skills, employability, and career readinessAssist students with transition planning and post-program successCore SkillsStrong communication and relationship-buildingCase management and organizationProblem-solving and conflict resolutionCultural competency and empathyProfessional judgment and confidentiality
