There is 1 triage bed and 3 postpartum beds in addition to the LDR beds. The unit averages approximately 340 births per year, with 30-35 deliveries per month. Ratios follow AWHONN guidelines. Nurses are required to titrate drips including Pitocin and insulin. A charge nurse is present on the unit, and there is a house supervisor available. Support staff includes CNA II and unit secretary. There are no OB/Neonatologists on-site but are available on call 24/7. Central monitoring for fetal strips is implemented, with maternal cardiac monitored by ICU staff. Shifts are block scheduled, allowing trades as needed. Weekend and holiday requirements include working one major and one minor holiday as applicable. Nurses are expected to help in other units as needed. Scrubs are provided for staff. The unit can be busy at times, so the ability to shift tasks quickly is essential.
