Job Description Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician / Diesel Mechanic – Metal Recycling FacilityPosition OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician / Diesel Mechanic to support daily operations at our metal recycling facility. This role is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment and diesel‐powered machinery used throughout the yard. Candidates must be able to work independently, prioritize repairs, and keep equipment running safely and efficiently. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM Pay Range: $25/hr – $40/hr, depending on experience and skill level Key ResponsibilitiesPerform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, and material handlersDiagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical componentsConduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and safety checksMaintain accurate service records, repair logs, and parts usageIdentify equipment issues early and recommend corrective actionsWork closely with operations staff to minimize downtime and prioritize urgent repairsSafely operate tools, diagnostic equipment, and machineryFollow all facility safety procedures and wear required PPE (hard hat, steel‐toed boots, high‐visibility vest)Work in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow Required QualificationsProven experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technicianStrong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical repairAbility to read and interpret equipment manuals and schematicsAbility to lift 50+ lbs and work in an outdoor industrial environmentStrong problem‐solving skills and ability to work independentlyCommitment to safety and PPE compliance Preferred SkillsExperience in metal recycling, scrap yards, construction, or industrial equipment maintenanceWelding and fabrication experienceFamiliarity with older and newer heavy equipment modelsAbility to operate heavy equipment for testing and diagnostics Work EnvironmentOutdoor industrial setting with exposure to weather, noise, and heavy machineryFast‐paced environment with shifting priorities based on equipment needs Company DescriptionNextMove is a modern staffing agency built for how businesses actually work today.
