Senior Security Engineer - Sec Ops
Overview
In this role you will design, build, and operate security tooling at scale within Elsevier’s Security Engineering team. You’ll own platform architectures, mentor engineers, and partner across Incident Response, Threat Engineering, and GRC to translate threats into engineering roadmaps. You will drive secure-by-design practices and accelerate delivery with AI-assisted tooling. This is a chance to shape secure tooling for a global tech estate and partner with cross-functional teams to elevate security posture.

ResponsibilitiesLead the design, architecture, and delivery of security platforms and servicesOwn Infrastructure as Code standards (Terraform) and CI/CD practices (GitHub Actions) across the teamProvide technical leadership and mentoring for junior and mid-level engineersDrive integration, tuning, and lifecycle management of core security toolingPartner with Incident Response, Threat Engineering, and GRC to translate threats and compliance needs into engineering roadmapsChampion adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to boost velocity and qualityLead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for security tooling incidents; drive resilience through capacity planning, DR planning, and runbook developmentRepresent SENG in architecture reviews and cross-functional forums to promote secure-by-design/default practicesDeliver production-ready systems on time and within budget, upholding engineering and security standards
