They give outstanding hospitality by meeting and exceeding our guests' expectations and providing excellent internal hospitality to the team. Their responsibilities include managing the smooth and seamless operations of the cheese departments, reaching store goals, upholding product quality and consistency standards, controlling inventory levels and mitigating waste, maintaining equipment and facilities, and safely handling all our products and equipment. This position requires scheduling flexibility, including nights, weekends and early mornings, along with traveling to and from each business. Scheduling requirements may change on or leading up to major holidays and/or major initiative launches. They are part of a cohesive Bi-Rite leadership team that supports the Bi-Rite Missions, Vision, and Community Values.ResponsibilitiesAccountable for the overall success of the Cheese departments across all Market locations. Oversees the day-to-day running of the departments and manages the achievement of long-term department goals and the implementation of Bi-Rite campaigns and initiatives.Accountable for visual merchandising standards including maintaining cleanliness and organization of displays, organizing active and passive samples, maintaining signage, rotating (FIFO) all cheese product, pulling expired products, storing deliveries and organizing backstock.Hires, trains, manages, and develops cheese department staff across all locations.Develops, documents, and trains staff on standard operating procedures and effective sales skills. Accountable for maintaining staff training schedule and keeping department training documents up to date.Responsible for staff engagement, growth and retention. Monitors staff performance through motivating, coaching and performance improvement plans. Scheduling requirements may change on or leading up to major holidays and/or major initiative launches.Qualifications3+ years' experience working with cheese in a retail, specialty food or production environment2+ years' prior management experience including experience training and developing a team – the ability to deliver training and coaching effectivelySuperlative sales skills, passion and knowledge of cheese products; ability to educate and inspire food knowledge and interest with staff and guests to promote salesA strong eye for visual merchandising, with the ability to create compelling, abundant, and seasonally relevant displays that enhance the guest experience.Hospitality leader, strong knowledge of retail guest hospitalityExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong public speaking skillsStrong presentation and meeting preparation skillsCritical thinking, troubleshooting, data analysis, and process building skills; meticulous attention to detailSolid math skills for basic budgeting, understanding financial reports for managing inventory controlExperience writing and maintaining operating procedures that ensure consistency and efficiencyProficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, ability to learn new technologiesServSafe Manager's Certification, ServSafe California Food Handler card is required within 30 days post-hire.
