The Audit Senior will lead audit engagements from planning through completion, supervise and mentor staff, perform complex audit procedures, and serve as a key point of contact for clients. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership capability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality audit services. The position has a strong focus on nonprofit (NFP) organizations, including fund accounting, grant compliance, and regulatory reporting.The ideal candidate brings public accounting experience, demonstrates sound professional judgment, and can manage multiple engagements while maintaining audit quality, timelines, and client relationships.Key ResponsibilitiesLead audit engagements, including planning, risk assessment, execution, and completion, under the direction of audit managers and partners.Supervise, train, and review the work of audit staff and interns, providing timely feedback, coaching, and performance development.Perform and review complex audit areas, including significant estimates, internal control testing, compliance requirements, and analytical procedures.Evaluate internal control systems, identify control deficiencies, assess audit risk, and develop practical recommendations for process improvement.Prepare and review detailed audit workpapers to ensure compliance with firm standards, GAAS, and applicable regulatory requirements.Review and assist in the preparation of financial statements, footnotes, and audit reports in accordance with GAAP, GASB, and FASB standards.Lead nonprofit and governmental audit engagements, including fund accounting, donor restrictions, grant compliance, Uniform Guidance, and Form 990 support.Serve as a primary client contact, coordinating audit schedules, resolving issues, and communicating audit findings clearly and professionally.Utilize audit and data analysis software (e.g., CaseWare, IDEA, Excel) to perform audits efficiently and enhance audit quality.Assist managers and partners with engagement budgeting, scheduling, and workflow management to ensure timely delivery.Stay current on auditing standards, accounting pronouncements, and industry developments, particularly those impacting nonprofit organizations.Contribute to firm initiatives, including process improvements, staff training, recruiting, and knowledge sharing.QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; masters degree in accounting or taxation preferred.Three to six years of public accounting audit experience required, including experience supervising staff.CPA license preferred; CPA candidate with significant progress toward licensure required.Strong knowledge of auditing standards (GAAS) and accounting standards applicable to nonprofits, including FASB ASC 958; GASB experience is a plus.Demonstrated experience leading audits, reviewing workpapers, and resolving complex accounting and auditing matters.Advanced proficiency in Excel and working knowledge of audit software such as CaseWare, IDEA, or similar tools.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.Ability to manage multiple engagements, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced public accounting environment.Willingness to travel to client sites as required.Prior experience working with nonprofit organizations, grant-funded programs, or compliance-based audits strongly preferred.
