Diesel Mechanic / Master Mechanic - Heavy Mining Equipment

Job Description:Detroit, MI$32.30/hr (Mechanic) | $35.30/hr (Master Mechanic with Certification)The OpportunityThis is a hands-on, high-skill role maintaining and repairing the heavy mining equipment that keeps salt extraction running safely and on schedule. If you thrive in an industrial environment and bring serious heavy equipment experience, this role was built for you.Your Day-to-DayDiagnose, repair, and rebuild heavy mining equipment including haul trucks, wheel loaders, bulldozers, conveyors, cranes, and personnel transport vehiclesTroubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems to OEM standardsPerform preventative maintenance - fluid levels, lube points, and routine inspectionsDismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists, hand tools, and pneumatic toolsPerform arc/MIG welding on broken parts and structural membersUtilize technical drawings and diagnostic testing equipment to isolate and correct faultsClear fault codes, troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, and execute full repairsComplete accurate shift paperwork and work logs at the end of each shiftTrain co-workers and new team membersMaintain a clean, safe work area and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulationsWhat We're Looking ForExperience & Certifications5+ years of heavy equipment or industrial shop mechanic experience requiredDiesel mechanic, heavy mechanic, or CAT certification requiredCAT certification strongly preferred; line boring experience a plus1 year of CAT SIS Program experience preferredHydraulic systems repair experience requiredArc/MIG welding experience required (arc welding highly preferred; TIG not applicable)Knowledge of Tier 4 engines and DPF systemsUnderground welding experience a plusNote: This is not a fleet or light-vehicle role - full repair mechanics onlyTechnical KnowledgeProficient diagnosing malfunctions across dozers, loaders, excavators, haul trucks, compressors, pumps, and related systemsAbility to operate lifting devices and perform component-level repairs including engines, transmissions, and sub-assembliesProficient in Microsoft Office and general computer programsEducation & OtherHigh school diploma or GED requiredMust be able to read, comprehend, and speak EnglishAble to lift 50+ pounds regularly and work in varying temperatures year-roundMust comply with all PPE requirementsBackground check and drug screening required prior to start (allow up to 2 weeks)No sponsorship availableShift & ScheduleDays: 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM | Overtime availableNights: 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM | Overtime available; self-starters preferredRotating Saturdays: Alternating weeks (6 days on, 5 days on)Ready to Apply?Your skills keep heavy equipment running and mining operations moving.
