This role provides a unique opportunity to serve as a strategic financial partner for our Commercial, R&D and Corporate programs. The position will provide financial, operational, and strategic leadership in a matrix reporting environment with multiple stakeholders across different internal groups. Through insightful understanding of the life sciences business, the Manager, FP&A will be responsible for providing financial guidance on key business decisions, delivery of financial commitments and ensuring optimal deployment of capital.The individual must have the ability to work independently and as an effective and engaged team member in a fast-paced environment. Strong initiative and follow-through are essential for this job. This role will report to Associate Director, Financial Planning & Analysis and will be a San Diego based role.If you possess the following and want to make a meaningful impact, we invite you to explore this role.Essential Functions And ResponsibilitiesWork closely with the Commercial, R&D and Corporate teams to provide business counsel and financial leadership to optimize strategic investments and cost efficienciesDevelop accurate and timely monthly reports, quarterly financial forecasts, annual budgets, long-range plans, and expense tracking of assigned clinical programs and functional areasProvide detailed analysis, and proactively identify risks and opportunities to the forecast, and regularly communicate findings to the leadership teamDeep understanding on standard financial processes such Purchase order (PO) management and invoice accruals/matching for budget managementWork closely with the accounting team and ensure the complete, accurate and timely processing of the monthly close processDevelop / maintain a strong partnership with the other internal groups and Finance colleagues to develop and share best practicesEnsure integrity and accuracy of the financial statements and compliance with SMPA policies and procedures, maintain strong internal control environmentAdvise team and actively engage in investment decisions through understanding of the research and development strategies and cost driversBasic understanding of Commercial and Corporate organizations to support successful investments and activitiesEducation And ExperienceBachelor’s degree in finance, or a related field of study with successful experience as finance business partnerMinimum 8 - 12 (w/o Master's) or 6 - 8 years (with Master's) years of relevant experience in biotech or life sciences industryExperience should include budgeting, forecasting, planning and analysis for a global organizationStrong cross-functional collaboration skillsAbility to work within a team, sharing ideas for best practices and process improvementsAbility to communicate technical or complex issues with clarity to non-financial individualsMust be proactive and possess the ability to work independentlyAbility to present results to multiple levels of the Corporate Strategy and Finance organizations in a clear and concise mannerStrong problem-solving skills, especially related to financial system integrationExperience using financial forecasting software such as NetSuite, DataRails, SAP, and OraclePossess a basic understanding of valuation principals, to include discounted cash flowPhysical RequirementsFrequently moves boxes weighing up to 20 poundsLocation: San Diego (on-site)TravelUp to 10% domestic travelJob TypeFull-time/ExemptBase Compensation Pay Range$119,000 - $156,000In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off. Please note: Base compensation will depend on multiple factors, including geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
