Associate Principal for Teaching and Learning

Purpose StatementThe job of Associate Principal for Teaching and Learning was established for the purpose of cultivating a vibrant, personalized student-centered learning environment that optimizes college, career, and life readiness. In addition, this role is chartered to develop a highly effective teacher in every classroom through the creation of talent development systems (teacher evaluation, developmental coaching, professional development, recognition and continual growth) that drives instructional excellence.Reports to: PrincipalSupervises: Teachers and administrative support staffWork Year: 12-months (260 days)Essential FunctionsTeaching and Learning Supports the philosophy and vision of Y115 Learning ModelProvides PreK-12 leadership and expertise at the building level in planning, implementing and monitoring progress in programming and multiple subject areasPlans, facilitates, updates and monitors the 9-12 curriculum and annual publication of the 9-12 curriculum guideFacilitates alignment of instruction, professional learning, technology, and assessment practices with established local, state, and national standards.Supports a comprehensive, sustained, and intensive approach to improving teacher effectiveness in raising student achievementSupports the utilization and implementation of formative and summative assessmentsProvides support and direction for School Improvement Planning and collaborates with Department Chairs to develop annual Subject Area Committee objectivesProvides assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues; assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum and assessments; and assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculumChairs and/or serves on a variety of committees at building, district, and community levels.Performs duties as assigned by the Principal Talent Development (in collaboration with the Teaching & Learning Department) Provides support and leadership in on-going professional learning focused on a continuous improvement processImplements, supports, and monitors professional learning communities.Facilitates the intellectual and personal development of teachers with a focus on improving student achievementResearches and provides supplementary materials and resources for quality classroom instructionEvaluates the effectiveness of teaching and holds individual teachers accountable for meeting their goals by conducting frequent formal and informal observations in order to provide timely, written feedback on instruction, preparation, and classroom environment as part of the district teacher evaluation systemCommunicates and demonstrates researched-based instructional practices that result in increased student performanceWorks collaboratively and collegially with Teachers on Special Assignment, Literacy Coaches, curriculum specialists and district specialistsProvides individualized, classroom-based developmental coaching with participants to support them in implementing good instructional practicesProvides organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed Data Analysis Provides data to inform the development of the school's improvement plan aligned to the district strategic plan and initiativesUses data systems to organize and analyze student achievement data; ensure the validity and reliability of student data by attending to the rigor and alignment of assessmentsUses disaggregated data to determine priorities, monitor progress, and help sustain continuous improvementUses data to inform decision making, to develop and modify curriculum, and to develop targeted and differentiated instructionProvides training and support for using data to drive quality instructionMeets with teachers regularly to discuss data trends; problem solve with departments, collaborative teaching teams, and staff to prioritize the actions that impact student performanceAssists with the creation, completion and presentation of school reports, as well as required reports for the districtProvides support in analyzing student assessment dataProfessional Development Coaches and develops teachers to establish the foundations for successful classrooms: ambitious vision and goals, purposeful long-term plans and unit plans, rigorous assessments, strong relationships, and positive classroom culturesObserves teachers weekly to gather data on student learning and teacher proficiency to diagnose teachers' strengths and weaknesses constantly and determine strategies for improving their practice and improving student learningProvides a wide variety of learning opportunities for teachers focused on analyzing student work, effective planning, targeted and differentiated instruction, as well as high expectations for classroom culture and behaviorSupports the system to provide data-driven professional development and sharing of effective practice by thoughtfully providing and protecting staff time intentionally allocated for professional development purposesEnsures the training, development, and support for high-performing instructional teacher teams to support adult learning and development to advance student learning and performanceProvides support and monitors the implementation of the use and effective implementation of digital classroom technologyOrganizational Leadership Serves on the Building Leadership Team;
