Field Support Technician (Onsite - North Chicago/Southern WI)
Job Description Andromeda is looking for a hands-on, self-sufficient Field Technician who thrives outside the office. If sitting at a desk all day sounds like a slow death, this role is probably your speed. As a key member of our service team, you’ll spend most (if not all) of your time onsite at client locations across North Chicago and Southern Wisconsin, solving problems, implementing solutions, and being the face of Andromeda in the field. This is not a hybrid role — this is a get-in-the-car, go-fix-things, make-clients-happy role. About You Who: A well-rounded IT professional who is just as comfortable crawling under a desk as you are explaining things to a business owner. What: At least 2 years of experience in an MSP or corporate IT environment. You can handle day-to-day issues, but you’re also trusted with more complex onsite work. When: Ready to start sometime in the next 90 days. Where: You must be based in the North Chicago area with the ability to travel regularly to client sites throughout North Chicago and into Southern Wisconsin. How: You work independently, manage your time well, and take ownership of problems until they’re fully resolved. You don’t wait to be told what to do — you see the issue and handle it. Why: You’d rather be in the field solving real problems than stuck behind a screen all day. Your Team You’ll be part of a 10–12 person service department, working closely with: Remote Support Technicians Escalation Techs / Team Leads Service Coordinators While you’ll spend most of your time onsite, you’re never on an island — the team has your back when you need it. How You Will Contribute A day/week in the life includes: Traveling to client sites to resolve technical issues and complete project work Installing, configuring, and supporting hardware and network equipment Handling onsite troubleshooting for servers, workstations, and network infrastructure Working directly with clients to resolve issues and provide guidance Collaborating with the remote team when additional support or escalation is needed Skills Needed: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Server OS (2008–2019+) Strong knowledge of Microsoft Workstations (Windows 10/11) Experience with networking (routing, switching, firewalls) Hands-on experience with hardware installs and troubleshooting Familiarity with Microsoft 365 / Azure environments Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical users Comfortable working independently in client environments Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Our Company Since 1994, Andromeda has kept businesses safe, secure, and running.
