ControllerThe Controller will serve as a key leader within the accounting team, acting as the right hand to the Director of Accounting and supporting the financial operations of a growing commercial property management company. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and driving process improvements across the organization.The Controller will directly manage and mentor a team of four, including an Accounts Receivable Coordinator, two Accounts Payable staff members, and a Senior Accountant. This individual will play a critical role in building scalable processes and supporting continued portfolio growth.This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across departments including Real Estate, Construction, and Facilities. This is a full-time, in-office position based in New Castle, Delaware.Key ResponsibilitiesLead, mentor, and develop a team of 4 accounting professionalsOversee daily accounting operations and ensure efficient workflow distributionPartner closely with the Director of Accounting on departmental strategy and executionFoster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environmentOversee preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsManage general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and financial accuracyEnsure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processesMaintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting proceduresDesign, implement, and continuously refine scalable accounting systems, processes, and workflows to support organizational growth and operational efficiencySupport budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysisDevelop a strong understanding of property and project-based accountingOversee accounting related to property management operations and capital projectsPartner cross-functionally with Real Estate, Construction, and Property Management teamsEnsure accurate tracking and reporting of project costs and property performanceSupervise AP and AR functions, including invoice processing and collectionsEvaluate and improve accounting workflows and systemsIdentify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvementsEnsure compliance with GAAP and relevant financial regulationsMaintain audit readiness and support external audit processesPrepare financial reports and analysis for senior leadershipQualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required58+ years of progressive accounting experience3+ years of direct experience supervising, leading, and developing accounting teams in a fast-paced environmentStrong understanding of GAAP and financial reportingExperience in real estate, property management, or project accounting preferred (or ability to quickly learn)Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems (Yardi experience a plus)CPA designation preferred but not requiredSkills & CompetenciesStrong leadership and team development skillsHigh attention to detail and organizational abilityExcellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skillsProcess-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvementAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentCompensation & BenefitsSalary Range: $110,000 $140,000 annually (commensurate with experience)Health, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time off and holidaysStable, growing organization with long-term career opportunitiesWork EnvironmentFull-time, onsite role in New Castle, DEMonday through Friday scheduleCollaborative, team-oriented environment with direct exposure to company leadershipAbout the CompanyFounded in 1965, this family-owned, third-generation commercial real estate company develops, builds, and manages a diverse portfolio of commercial, retail, industrial, multifamily, and office properties totaling over two million square feet.
