Grants Accountant (Temp-to-Perm)Nonprofit | Government-Funded Programs | Long Island, NYCompensation & SchedulePay Rate: $38/hour (depending on experience)Salary: Up to $80kSchedule: Monday-Friday, 35-hour work week (9-5 or 8-4)Additional hours during month-end close and audit periodsAbout the OpportunityOur client, a well-established mission-driven nonprofit organization, is seeking a Senior Accountant to support a complex, multi-funded environment. With an annual budget of approximately $24M, the organization operates across multiple programs funded by city/state agencies, federal grants, and private sources.This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative finance team and gain exposure to government contract accounting, audit processes, and an upcoming system implementation.Key ResponsibilitiesManage month-end close, including journal entries and account reconciliationsSupport financial audits, prepare schedules, and liaise with external auditorsPerform fund accounting across multiple funding streams (government contracts, grants, vouchers)Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit/federal (Uniform Guidance) requirementsAnalyze program-level revenue and expenses; ensure proper classification of fundsPartner with internal teams including AP, Payroll, and BudgetingAssist with process improvements and system transition to Sage IntacctTeam EnvironmentLean, collaborative accounting teamOpportunity to work cross-functionally and take ownership of core accounting processesQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field3+ years of accounting experience (nonprofit or fund accounting preferred)Strong understanding of GAAP, audit support, and complianceExperience with government funding, grants, or contract accounting is highly preferredSystems experience with FundEZ, Sage Intacct, or similar ERP is a plusStrong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)Why This Role Stands OutExposure to a complex, multi-stream funding environmentHands-on involvement in a system implementation (Sage Intacct)Stable, mission-driven organization making community impactBroad, visible role within a collaborative teamFor an immediate response, please send your resume to jcanabal@ascendo.comAscendo is a certified minority owned staffing firm, and we welcome and celebrate diversity.
