The Developer Portal will be leveraged by external customers from different companies to utilize CVS Health APIs.As a Staff Software Development Engineer for the Developer Portal, you'll balance hands-on technical contributions with the strategic leadership needed to guide our platform's long-term architecture and direction. You'll work at the intersection of technical expertise and organizational influence, advocating for the application's health while helping teams across CVS Digital achieve their goals.We need a technical leader who can navigate ambiguity, build lasting organizational relationships, and provide technical direction that resonates across engineering teams. This is a unique opportunity to shape both technology and engineering culture from the ground up.Setting Technical DirectionYou'll collaborate with engineering leaders to establish technical vision and strategy for the Developer portalYou'll guide architectural decisions that balance immediate business needs with long-term technical healthYou'll develop and socialize technical standards that enable teams to work effectively at scaleYou'll identify and address systemic problems before they become critical issuesMentorshipYou'll actively mentor engineers through both ongoing relationships and timely technical guidanceYou'll sponsor promising engineers by advocating for their ideas in meetings they can't attendYou'll help grow the engineering organization by participating in hiring and onboardingYou'll create opportunities for engineers to take on challenging work that grows their skillsTechnical ExecutionYou'll write code strategically, focusing on high-leverage components, patterns, and examplesYou'll review code with an eye toward system design, scalability, and maintainabilityYou'll contribute to complex debugging and production incidents when your expertise is neededYou'll identify and resolve critical technical debt that impacts multiple teamsBeing Organizational GlueYou'll build bridges between teams with competing priorities to find technical solutions that work for everyoneYou'll navigate organizational boundaries to unblock important technical initiativesYou'll ensure critical knowledge is documented and shared rather than siloedYou'll facilitate technical discussions to help teams reach alignment on complex decisionsExplorationYou'll investigate emerging technologies that could benefit our platform and developersYou'll lead proof-of-concepts for high-potential technologies to validate their application at CVS scaleYou'll stay current with industry trends and bring relevant external perspectives into our technical discussionsYou'll provide thoughtful evaluation of technical approaches, grounded in both theory and practical applicationRequired Qualifications7+ years of experience in web development5+ years of experience in JavaScript and TypeScript3+ years of experience in API developmentExperience with modern front-end frameworks (React and Next.js preferred)Preferred QualificationsExperience with Java and Spring BootTrack record of technical leadership on projects impacting multiple teamsDemonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiencesProven experience mentoring and growing other engineersExperience building and maintaining systems at scaleExperience with front-end architecture and design systemsExperience building developer tools, libraries or platformsKnowledge of modern web performance optimization techniquesUnderstanding of API design and GraphQLExperience with DevOps tools, processes, and culture.Experience fostering inclusive engineering practicesExperience influencing technical decisions without direct authorityEducationBachelor's degree or equivalent experience (High school diploma plus 4 years relevant work experience)Pay RangeThe Typical Pay Range For This Role Is$118,450.00 - $236,900.00This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
