Shipping Manager
Shipping ManagerThe Shipping Manager provides direct leadership and accountability for warehouse teams. This position is responsible and accountable for managing incoming materials and shipping of finished goods. They support material delivery to external and internal customers, as well as ensuring the accuracy of inventory, inspection of packaging and labeling requirements (and remediation if defective) and timely execution of shipments. This role may also include (at peak times) offloading/loading of vehicles, receipt of goods, positioning in racks and physical order preparation.Essential Functions/DutiesEnsure that all employees observe and maintain a safe working environment.Provide the Shipping team with clear goals, objectives and performance feedback, coaching and developing direct reports to improve the culture of the team and site.Manage staffing levels to meet business delivery and cost goalsEnsure associates deliver high quality products to our customers.Manage shipping department targets operational costs, inventory control, equipment/process efficiencies (labor, energy, etc.), and departmental productivity as assigned.Ensure the facilities and equipment are clean and able to support our customers and employees.Employ negotiation tactics to guarantee competitive pricing with vendors and sub-suppliers.CompetenciesAbility to maintain positive relations within all levels of the organization.Ability to communicate, present facts and provide recommendations effectively in oral and written form.Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, adapt to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of service and response.Ability to work effectively with or without direct supervision as well as independently or in a team environment.Continuously focus on process improvement and proactively anticipates needs and present solutions.Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism while under pressure and in the face of adversityWork under critical deadlines and heavy workloads to support the critical functions of the company.Ability to prioritize and work with accuracy under stress.Must have a solid working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook applicationsMust possess an active, unexpired driver's license and a clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)Physical/Cognitive DemandsThis is largely a physically active role including walking long distances (over uneven surfaces) to/within our production facility, lifting 50lbs or more and standing for long periods. Position also requires bending, stooping, squatting or standing as necessary. Cognitive abilities required include deductive reasoning, information ordering, oral comprehension, oral expression, problem sensitivity, written comprehension, and written expression.Position Type/Expected Hour of WorkThe regular schedule will be M-F 7am-4pm. Mandatory overtime hours (including weekend work) are required on a recurring basis. Regular travel (up to 25%) is an essential function of the job.Required Education and ExperienceMust have shipping/receiving department experience including utilizing/managing shipping software.Solid understanding of freight rates and lanes is requiredAssociate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year college or technical schoolFive or more years of Proven Leadership experienceAn equivalent combination of both education and leadership experience may be acceptablePreferred Education and ExperienceManufacturing and Sales organization experience is a plus.Other DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
