IT Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for a highly experienced *z/OS Automation Engineer* to design, develop, implement, and support enterprise-level automation solutions within IBM mainframe environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in *IBM System Automation, IBM NetView, REXX, z/OS subsystems, Parallel Sysplex, workload automation, and high-availability solutions*.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyze complex operational, technical, and business challenges and develop effective automation solutions.
* Design, implement, and maintain automation across *IBM z/OS, UNIX, and Windows* environments.
* Develop and support enterprise automation using *IBM System Automation for z/OS*.
* Configure automation policies, managed resources, resource dependencies, automation definitions, and SA policy databases.
* Develop advanced *REXX* programs, automation scripts, command processors, and operational tools.
* Develop and maintain *IBM NetView* automation tables, message automation, command lists, PIPEs, and event-processing solutions.
* Automate availability, startup, shutdown, restart, recovery, and health monitoring for critical z/OS applications.
* Support automation across *CICS, Db2, IMS, JES2/JES3, MQ, and TCP/IP* environments.
* Design automation solutions for *Parallel Sysplex* and cross-system environments.
* Support and maintain *JCL, SDSF, TSO/ISPF*, and z/OS operational processes.
* Develop and manage workload automation using *IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS/TWS/ZWS)*.
* Implement automation within *z/OS UNIX System Services (USS/OMVS)* using UNIX processes and shell scripting.
* Integrate mainframe automation with monitoring and event-management platforms such as *OMEGAMON, ServiceNow, and Moogsoft*.
* Develop *self-healing, high-availability, recovery, and restart automation* for critical business applications.
* Identify opportunities to eliminate manual processes and improve operational efficiency and system reliability.
* Troubleshoot automation failures and provide root-cause analysis and remediation.
* Collaborate with application, infrastructure, operations, and business teams to deliver scalable automation solutions.
* Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance while promoting automation best practices.
* Participate in an *on-call rotation* when required.
Required Skills
* Expert experience with *IBM System Automation for z/OS (SA z/OS)*.
* Advanced *REXX* programming.
* Strong *IBM NetView* automation experience.
* Strong knowledge of *z/OS architecture and operations*.
* Experience with *CICS, Db2, IMS, JES2/JES3, MQ, and TCP/IP*.
* Strong understanding of *Parallel Sysplex and cross-system automation*.
* Experience with *IBM Workload Scheduler / IWS / TWS / ZWS*.
* Strong knowledge of *JCL, SDSF, TSO/ISPF*.
* Experience with *z/OS UNIX System Services (USS/OMVS)* and shell scripting.
* Experience with enterprise monitoring and event-management tools.
* Experience implementing *high availability, disaster recovery, restart, and self-healing automation*.
* Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred / Desired Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in *Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field*, or equivalent experience.
* Experience with *IBM OMEGAMON* situation development, alerting, and monitoring customization.
* Experience with *GDPS and disaster recovery automation*.
* Knowledge of *SMP/E maintenance* and z/OS system programming concepts.
* Familiarity with *Ansible* automation.
* Experience working with *REST APIs*.
* Knowledge of *mainframe modernization technologies*.
* Awareness of current industry standards, automation practices, and emerging mainframe technologies.
