Dean of Students

Job PurposeUnder the direction of the Principal, the Dean of Students will lead the school-wide effort to create a culture that is aligned with the mission and core values of the school. S/he is responsible for proactively encouraging and supporting students to engage in positive behavior and engaging families in furthering their child’s education. The Dean of Students will partner with the school teams to ensure that all students show achievement gains and develop strong character skills. Additionally, s/he coaches a portfolio of teachers and facilitates high-impact professional development for staff as needed.Essential Responsibilities And CompetenciesSchool Culture and LeadershipWork closely with Principals to establish a positive, structured, safe, achievement-oriented, and creative school cultureServe as the point person for behavioral crisis-intervention and acute behavioral issuesEnsure that behavioral expectations and school culture standards are met inside and outside of the classroomInvest the scholars in caring deeply about their own academic performance and becoming the next generation of serving leaders in their communitiesLead recognition and celebration events and other school-wide culture building activities and eventsCoordinate and implement the school-wide behavior management system with meaningful incentives and consequencesConduct regular school culture walkthroughs to help staff maintain a high bar of excellenceSupervise school entry, breakfast, lunch, dismissal, and transitions to ensure they are orderly and positiveTrain teachers to develop clear and consistent classroom expectations and routinesDirectly coach teachers and observe lessons and provide targeted and actionable feedback to teachers, as requested by PrincipalAct as a resource to teachers in their instructional practice as it relates to issues of discipline, relationships with students, classroom management, and school cultureLead staff efforts to ensure all students have excellent attendance and arrive at school on timeLead staff trainings throughout school year on professional development days, as requested by PrincipalAssist teachers, students, and parents in the effective creation and implementation of individual behavior plansFamily and Community PartnershipTrack and partner with parent volunteers in screening process and volunteer assignmentsLead and manage school-wide events with the parent volunteersConduct parent meetings and support staff in parent meetingsProactively support student recruitment efforts to ensure school is enrolled at capacity for academic yearBuild strong rapport with parents of scholars and act as first point of contact for parent questions, concerns, and feedbackActively engage with community partners and organizations to implement school programs, plan events, and impact the communityRecord KeepingMaintain excellent records of student behavior, both in student files and in the school-wide online data systemEnsure that all teachers and staff are following expectations around parent meetings and school behavioral policiesTrack and analyze school and classroom data around attendance, uniform, suspensions, and all behavioral trends to ensure adherence to school goals and expectationsMaintain data related to student retention goals and resultsCritically create incentives, systems, and initiatives based on school data as neededPerform other duties as requested or requiredQualificationsBachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferredAt least three years of teacher experience with exceptional results, strong instructional skills, and strong classroom management skillsPrevious experience in leadership and managing adults is preferredExperience working with youth and families in low-income urban communitiesProficient with technology including Microsoft Office SuiteValid teaching credential or certificationPersonal QualitiesIntegrity, credibility, and passionate commitment to HOPE’s mission of Christ, College, and CharacterProactive and hands-on strategic thinker who enjoys tackling challenges and overcoming obstaclesFocus on a systems-oriented approach to student, classroom, and school cultureStrong organization, planning, and time management skillsAbility to simultaneously lead multiple projectsStrong relationship building, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsCommitment to loving our scholars, an unwavering belief that all children can and must succeed, and a deep passion for developing the character of a serving leader in every childDriven by a passion for ensuring every scholar has an excellent educationLive and act as a biblical role model and HOPE Christians Schools representative in your life for our scholars, team members and community.Agree to always comply with our Code of Conduct and Statement of Faith.Agree to engage in the faith life of our scholars and in collaboration with other team membersPassion for making high-quality Christian education accessible and affordable for all.Maturing Christ-follower who sees the fulfillment of this role and our mission as an active expression of their ongoing walk with Christ.
