Diesel Mechanic

Diesel Service Tech/MechanicOur client, a family-owned truck repair is an operated Union Diesel Repair Shop serving the St. Louis area for over 80 years. Currently being run by the 4th genera􀆟on of Schroeders. We are currently looking for Diesel Mechanics for our 2nd shift, 3:30 to Midnight.Monday through Friday work week, Union wages and Benefits via Machinist District 9.Du􀆟es & Responsibilities:Consulting the customer and reading work orders to evaluate the tasks requiredPreparing work plans after fully scoping out the issuesRunning diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutionsInspecting vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhaustsRepairing or replacing vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and other associated partsConducting field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdownTest driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performanceCompleting oil changes, coolant service, AC evaluation, and brake checksMaintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehiclesEnsure the job area is organized and clean, including mee􀆟ng necessary standards for waste disposal and environmental protectionJob Requirements:At least 4 years of diesel or heavy equipment maintenance and repair experience. (Preferred)Advanced knowledge of a vehicle, its electrical system, and the mechanisms of a diesel engine (Hi rail and hydraulic knowledge is Preferred)In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanismsSuperior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipmentComfortable using mechanical and electrical power toolsExcellent problem-solving skillsKeen attention to detailBasic knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics (MaxxTraxx knowledge is preferred)Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic so􀅌wareA valid driver’s license; Must have CDL -B (CDL-A strongly preferred)Good interpersonal skillsEffective collaboration and communication skillsMust furnish own toolsPhysical Requirements:Work inside an open floor plan shopDaily exposure to dirt, oils, smells, and sounds, related to standard mechanics’ shopMust be able to lift, handle, meet ladder safety requirementsMust be able to lift 50+ lbs. regularlyMust be able to work at heights of 0-20 ftMust be able to bend, stand, sit, crawl, lay, climb, and li􀅌 throughout each dayRequired to stand, walk, and sit frequently.
