About the RoleA privately held, multi-generational family office with a diverse real estate portfolio is seeking a hands-on Controller to own day-to-day accounting operations and the financial close across its real estate entities. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this role is the engine of the accounting function, ideal for a strong technical accountant who wants ownership, variety, and close collaboration with leadership in a lean, high-trust environment.ResponsibilitiesOwn the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across the family office and its real estate entities, ensuring timely and accurate results.Prepare and review consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and multi-entity financial statements.Manage day-to-day accounting operations: general ledger, AP/AR, cash management, and bank and account reconciliations.Produce financial reporting packages, cash flow reports, and variance analysis for the Director of Accounting and ownership.Handle property-level accounting, CAM reconciliations, and lender/investor reporting requirements.Support partnership accounting, capital calls/distributions, and K-1 preparation in coordination with tax advisors.Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and the chart of accounts.Coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers on annual audits and filings.Supervise and develop staff accountants; leverage external resources as needed.Help implement and optimize accounting systems (e.g., Yardi) and drive process improvements.Qualifications7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within real estate (investment firm, family office, or owner/operator) or a comparable multi-entity environment.Strong technical accounting background (GAAP, real estate partnerships, consolidations, multi-entity structures).Hands-on experience owning the full-cycle close and financial reporting.Proficiency with real estate accounting systems (Yardi preferred) and strong Excel skills.Experience supporting audits, tax coordination, and investor/lender reporting.Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable operating in a lean, fast-moving setting.CPA strongly desired but not required.High integrity and discretion, with the ability to work in a confidential, private setting.Note on this posting: This search is managed and posted through Stockdale Capital.
