Manufacturing Engineering Manager

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the Manufacturing Engineering department at Quality Electrical Systems (QES), a custom electrical manufacturing company serving the oil & gas, pump station, and data center industries. This role is responsible for developing and executing both short-term and long-term manufacturing engineering strategies to improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, scalability, and cost competitiveness. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will align engineering processes with QES business objectives and ensure that engineering resources, tools, and systems support current production and future growth. ________________________________________ Key Roles and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Planning Develop and execute shortterm and longterm manufacturing engineering strategies aligned with QES operational and business objectives. Create department roadmaps, capital equipment plans, automation strategies, and technology investments to support growth, quality, and throughput. Partner with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales to align engineering priorities with customer requirements and production demand. __________________________________________ Department Leadership and Management Lead, mentor, and develop a team of manufacturing engineers, process engineers, and technical specialists. Establish departmental goals, KPIs, and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement. Manage workload prioritization, staffing plans, and resource allocation to support production and new product introductions _____________________________________________ Process Engineering and Continuous Improvement Design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for custom electrical gear, including switchgear, control panels, MCCs, enclosures, and power distribution equipment. Drive lean manufacturing initiatives, process standardization, and waste reduction across fabrication, assembly, wiring, testing, and finishing operations. Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for manufacturing issues, defects, and yield losses. _____________________________________________ New Product Introduction (NPI) and Engineering Change Management Oversee manufacturing engineering support for new product introductions, customer-specific designs, and custom builds. Ensure manufacturability (DFM/DFA) is incorporated into engineering designs and quoting processes. Manage engineering change processes to ensure controlled implementation and minimal production disruption. ________________________________________ Equipment, Tooling, and Automation Specify, justify, and implement manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and automation systems. Evaluate ROI for capital investments and lead implementation of new technologies (robotics, CNC, automated wiring, testing equipment, etc.). ______________________________________________ Documentation, Systems, and Compliance Establish and maintain standard work instructions, process documentation, and engineering standards. Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards (UL, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, IEC) and internal quality systems. Support audits and certifications related to manufacturing and quality systems. ________________________________________ Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Production, and Field Service teams. Support customer technical reviews, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and technical problem resolution. ________________________________________ Job Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field required. Master’s degree or MBA preferred. Experience 812+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in custom electrical equipment, industrial manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities, or data center infrastructure. 35+ years of engineering leadership or management experience. Proven experience implementing manufacturing process improvements, automation, and capital equipment projects. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of electrical manufacturing processes, panel and switchgear assembly, wiring, testing, and fabrication. Experience with CAD/PLM systems, ERP/MRP systems, and manufacturing documentation control. Familiarity with UL, NEC, NEMA, IEC, and industry standards applicable to electrical gear. Understanding of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. Leadership and Business Skills Strategic planning and execution capability with strong business acumen. Ability to lead and develop highperforming engineering teams. Strong project management, budgeting, and capital planning skills. Excellent communication and crossfunctional collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license or Six Sigma certification. Experience in highly engineered, lowvolume highmix manufacturing environments. Experience with automation, robotics, and Industry 4.0 manufacturing technologies. ________________________________________ Physical and Work Environment Requirements Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to electrical equipment, fabrication areas, and production floors.
