Education Development, Marketing, & Communications Intern (College Student, Graduate Student, or Recent Graduate)About EdVoice and EdVoice InstituteEdVoice is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit education advocacy organization that is reshaping public education in California so that all children have futures filled with opportunity. California’s public education system is not working well for children from low-income communities, and significant policy changes are needed at the state level. EdVoice is leading efforts to ensure all students receive a quality education by engaging in advocacy and lobbying activities to influence the passage of state legislation that will combat the current system’s inequities. We also lead coalition-building efforts and general awareness campaigns to champion the most important policies each legislative cycle and provide strategic political funding to leaders who prioritize the needs of students from low-income communities through our EdVoice for the Kids PAC.Our sister organization, EdVoice Institute, is a 501(c)(3) research and coalition-building organization that uplifts scalable solutions to improve academic outcomes for children from low-income communities. EdVoice Institute provides evidence-based policy recommendations across our key pillars to restructure the public education system and prepare students for college, career, and life. These efforts help build the overall political will for change and aid in persuading legislators to prioritize passing high-impact policies that improve public education in California.The OpportunityEdVoice is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented summer intern to support our Development, Marketing, and Communications efforts during Summer 2026. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in nonprofit fundraising, marketing, public affairs, and strategic communications, particularly within the context of education policy and advocacy in California.Essential ResponsibilitiesProjects will be scoped based on timing, candidate strengths, and team needs. Sample responsibilities may include:Conducting donor research and supporting the development of donor profiles, prospect lists, and screening toolsPreparing foundation briefs to inform outreach and engagement strategiesCompiling and maintaining comprehensive lists of elected officials, legislative caucuses, and their social media presenceSupporting social media strategy and execution, including drafting content and tracking engagementAssisting with community management across digital platforms, including monitoring messages and engaging with followersCreating graphics and visual content to support communications, campaigns, and eventsSupporting data collection, organization, and analysis related to development and communications effortsCompleting special projects as needed, working on a wide variety of fundraising, communications, and public affairs initiativesWhat You’ll GainExposure to nonprofit fundraising, communications, and advocacy strategy in CaliforniaOpportunities to engage with a collaborative and fast-paced teamExperience producing professional work products used in external communications and donor engagementA clearer view of career pathways in development, marketing, communications, public affairs, or nonprofit leadershipThe opportunity to build a professional network in California’s education and policy landscapeKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong writing and editing skills (briefs, summaries, and external-facing content)Experience with research, data collection, and synthesis of informationFamiliarity with social media platforms and content creationBasic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar tools)Ability to analyze and organize data with attention to detailStrong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlinesProfessional communication skills (email, Zoom, meetings, etc.)Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a small teamProficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)Interest in education policy, advocacy, and/or nonprofit developmentWho Should ApplyCurrent students or recent graduates in Communications, Public Relations, Public Policy, Political Science, Marketing, or a related fieldApplicants should demonstrate strong attention to detail, initiative, and an interest in mission-driven workInternship DetailsLocation: Remote; must be available to work between the hours of 9am - 5pm Pacific Time.
