DEFINITION/SELECTION PROCESSUnder supervi­sion of ­­Recreation Supervisor, super­vises, plans, orga­niz­es and con­ducts recre­ation pro­grams at a commu­nity site for young­sters ages 6-14.Essential Functions/Examples Of DutiesAssumes the responsi­bility for issu­ance and use of recre­ation equipment and supplies; con­ducts safety and main­tenance inspections of buildings and facilities; pre­pares site for play­ground and special programs; leads, plans and organizes special contests, games, mu­sic, arts and crafts, sports, drama and dance activities; main­tains paperwork and makes oral and written reports as required; assists in the supervi­sion of commu­nity-wide special events as well as attending weekly meetings.Recre­ation Leaders will work approx­imately two to three hours a day, three days per week, leading children in vari­ous recre­ation­al activi­ties. Addi­tional hours may be required for planning meet­ings, special programs, etc.Typical QualificationsAny combina­tion of training, educa­tion and experience which would provide the required knowledges and abili­ties. Spanish speaking skills are desirable. Ability to plan recre­ational pro­grams for and work effec­tively with youths aged 6-14 years is highly desir­able.Knowledge of: Basic arithmetic; basic reading skills; first aid princi­ples and prac­tices; recreation program princi­ples and procedures; ood organiza­tional skills; and basic communica­tion skills.Ability to: Make mathe­matical calcula­tions; main­tain accu­rate records; make sound deci­sions based on ­logical reasoning; and estab­lish and main­tain effec­tive rela­tion­ships with those contacted in the course of work.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONCERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Standard First Aid Certifi­cate and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate are desirable.LICENSE: Possession of a Class C ­California Driver's License is required. At-Will designation refers to full-time employees in certain classifications and all part-time, temporary employees. The unclassified, non-budgeted employee is at-will, has no probationary period, and may be rejected at any time without cause and without the right of appeal. Part-time, temporary appointments are "at-will" assignments, not subject to the competitive service process, and serve at the direction and discretion of the assigned department. Part-time, temporary appointments are not eligible to receive vacation, holidays, or any other benefits provided to budgeted, regular status employees. Part-time, temporary appointments, including PT PERS are eligible to accrue paid sick leave up to 5 days or 40 hours of accrued paid sick leave per year. Any accrued sick leave cannot be cashed out upon termination. (PT Retiree Annuitants are not eligible to accrue paid sick leave.) Part-time, temporary appointments can be made for a period of up to 19 hours per week and cannot exceed 1,000 hours worked within one fiscal year without prior approval.
