Construction Controller

All Wall Contracting is a growing, 100% employee-owned specialty construction firm with multi-state operations. We pride ourselves on a collaborative, high-performance culture and are currently seeking an experienced Construction Controller to join our leadership team. This is a pivotal role responsible for managing all financial operations and contributing to strategic company growth.
Summary of Responsibilities
The Controller will lead the financial activities of the company, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with strategic goals. This individual will manage day-to-day accounting functions, lead a small finance team, ensure compliance, and serve as a key advisor to executive leadership.
Financial Operations
Supervise and mentor staff members
Oversee daily cash management and bank reconciliations
Manage all financial operations including billings, AP/AR, job cost accounting, payroll and cash flow
Manage IT issues
Review and monitor the preparation of weekly payroll for 100-150 employees
Perform special assignments as directed
Financial Reporting
Manage Work-in- progress and Over/Under billing reporting and adjustments
Preparation and review monthly financial statements with presentation to management
Oversee the monthly job cost reporting process with project managers for use in creating contract schedules, forecasting work in progress estimates and progress billings
Lead annual budget process and forecasting updates engaging various departments to establish annual goals to ensure fiscal health
Develop and maintain the system of internal accounting controls and financial reporting
Coordinate quarterly accounting reviews, annual audits, regulatory and tax filings
Business and Health Insurance
Assist in the review and procurement of the business and health insurance programs
Maintenance of insurance/risk protection including workers compensation insurance
Oversee annual audits of all insurances
Retirement Programs
Assist in the compliance, maintenance and administration of the AWC 401(K) plan
Assist in the compliance, maintenance and administration of the AWC Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
Strategic Planning
Participate in on-going strategic planning with the AWC leadership team. Perform due diligence and create projections on growth opportunities as needed
Prepare the annual financial budget and update forecasts on a quarterly basis
Oversee and provide input to management for the revenue forecast on a monthly basis
Key Competencies
Excellent written and verbal communication
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (Sage Contractor preferred)
Strong leadership, decision making and multi-tasking abilities
Experience working with banks, external accountants, and other business partners
An Ownership thinking attitude
Understanding of GAAP and construction accounting practices
Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, tax, and banking knowledge is required
Experience in analyzing and interpreting complex financial data
Knowledge of construction law and industry best practices
Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum 5 years of experience in a Controller or similar position, preferably in the construction industry
