Poten & Partners is seeking an Entry Level Data Analyst to join our Houston office. This role is part of a collaborative team responsible for delivering high-quality data, analysis, and reporting that support both our editorial publications and client-facing LNG and shipping market intelligence products.The Data Analyst will be responsible for daily data collection, analysis, maintaining and expanding LNG-related SQL databases, and automating manual data processes where possible. The ideal candidate combines technical data skills with strong communication abilities and an interest in global LNG and other energy and shipping markets.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain and enhance LNG and shipping databases to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrityCollect, validate, and analyze market data to support editorial content and client deliverablesPrepare, publish, and distribute comprehensive daily LNG and shipping market data reportsMaintain Tableau visualizations supporting LNG and shipping subscription productsDevelop and manage SQL-based datasets and improve underlying data models as neededAutomate manual data workflows using Python or related tools where possibleProvide analytical and data-driven support to editorial, research, and advisory teamsProduce ad hoc market analyses and custom reports to support internal and client decision-makingDevelop and maintain relationships with LNG industry participants to gather market data and insightsGather information about spot LNG deals in the Atlantic BasinParticipate in industry conferences, meetings, and networking events as requiredRequired QualificationsAn ideal candidate will have:College or university degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science or EngineeringFamiliarity with SQL for querying and manipulating data in relational databasesFamiliarity with Python for data automation, analysis, and basic forecastingExperience using TableauPractical experience with data cleaning, validation, and working with messy, real-world datasetsAdvanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookup functions, formulas, and basic automation)Interest in or familiarity with energy markets; LNG experience is a plusAdditional Skills & AttributesThe successful candidate will also possess:Strong written and verbal communication skillsHigh attention to detail and commitment to data qualityAbility to work collaboratively across teams while also operating independentlyStrong organizational skills and ability to manage priorities and meet daily deadlinesComfort engaging with both internal stakeholders and external industry participantsThe necessary legal authorization to work in the United StatesKnowledge Development ExpectationsThe successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong working knowledge of:Worldwide geography, including countries, ports, and shipping routesGlobal LNG markets, pricing structures, and trade flow dynamicsLNG shipping economics and vessel fundamentalsWhat We OfferExposure to global LNG and shipping markets within a leading brokerage and advisory firmA collaborative, intellectually rigorous environment with visibility across the organizationOpportunities to contribute directly to market-leading analytics and publicationsCompetitive compensation and benefitsProfessional growth within a specialized data and analytics functionBase salary: Starting at $60,000, plus bonusThe actual base salary will be determined on an individualized basis considering a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, and, where applicable, licenses or certifications held.
