Position Title: Classroom TeacherWage/HourStatus: Exempt/At willReports to: Director/PrincipalSchool: Campus AssignedQUALIFICATIONSEducation: Hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/universityCERTIFICATIONHold or eligible for a current valid Texas Teaching Certificate appropriate to assignment or Certification in another state appropriate to assignment; ESL cerification, as neededSPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSAbility to instruct children assignedKnowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and SkillsAbility to plan and deliver lessons and assesses student performance PHYSICAL ABILITIESAbility to stand for at least thirty minutes outside within 15 feet of studentsAbility to assist students tying shoes and button or unbutton coats PURPOSEClassroom Teachers provide instructional services to students including assessing student skills and abilities, developing lesson plans, providing instruction, assessing student competencies and re-teaching as needed. Provide a safe learning environment for all students.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAssessmentMay screen students with state mandated reading assessmentsAssist in administration of State assessment, national assessments as requestedMay provide instructional assessment of student performance in core academic areasProvide instructional assessment of student performance in assigned areasEvaluate student performance for appropriate level of assignment PlanningProvide daily lesson plans for all instructional days each school yearProvide lesson plans for substitute teachers in your classroomCooperate with grade level and school wide planning committees Instructional deliveryDeliver daily instruction to students assignedProvide lesson plans and activities that actively engage student in learningPerfom all duties pertaining to area of expertise as requiredScreen all electronic, paper products, books, films or other media for appropriateness for use with students Student disciplineMaintain classroom discipline conducive to a learning environmentProvide redirection and disciplinary alternatives to correct student behaviorParticipate in school sponsored Capturing Kids' Hearts trainingProvide a discipline management program consistent with Capturing Kids' Hearts ConferencingConference as needed with parents and school administrators about appropriate topicsCollaborate with staff and teachers in planning school operationsParticipate in staff development activities as assignedPrepare written and electronic communication that is consistent, with professional and easy to understand directions or directives for each audience ManagementMaintain accurate records of student attendanceMaintain accurate records of student performanceOrder supplies and materials in a timely fashion for the teaching level assignedCompile all records as requestedSupervise students on field trips and events at the school and off site WORKING ENVIRONMENTMaintain emotional control under the stress of instructional operationsTravel as needed to secure supplies and materialsBe flexible in assisting others as requestedParticipate in overnight training, field trips with students, and professional conferencesThis is a professional position that uses professional judgment and may serve more than forty hours per week. Retirement is through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas and not Social Security. TRS requires five years of participation before any retirement funds are vested. Texas Workers Compensation covers workers in this position.Some teachers are partially or fully funded with Title I funds. Staff should ask their campus Director if they are paid from Title I funds. Such are Federal monies and are subject to reduction and elimination at any time.
