Compliance Examiner

TITLE: COMPLIANCE EXAMINER DEPARTMENT: UNDERWRITINGPOSITION SUMMARY The Compliance Examiner is responsible for conducting quality and compliance reviews. Identify inconsistencies in the handling of underwriting files and prepare reports for management. This position reports directly to the Underwriting Director. This is a full time position. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am- 4:00 pm, although there is some flexibility within the confines of the job requirements; but the employee must be available to work in the event of a catastrophe.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Review underwriting files for quality and compliance with Company policies, legal and regulatory requirements. Review the work of underwriters, associate underwriters, data entry associates, CSRs and payment processors. Identify underwriting file handling accuracy results at the individual and department levels. Document audit review and prepare reports of findings. Communicate audit review findings both verbally and written, with internal staff and external vendors as necessary. Assist with the preparation of underwriting operating procedures and training. May handle underwriting files. All functions are performed in a timely manner. Must adhere to company policies and guidelines. Maintain strict confidentiality on all files and records. Must have flexible work hours and be able to work limited overtime as needed. Exercises independent judgment and discretion in performance of duties and responsibilities. Maintain positive interpersonal skills and abilities. Engage in cognitive and analytic abilities. This position is subject to occasional business related travel that includes driving. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is required to write; reach with hands; and key frequently on a computer for long periods of time (4 or more hours per day). Performs all other duties as assigned.SKILLS Familiar with guidelines, policies, and procedures in underwriting. Must be a team player and able to communicate effectively with co-workers and others. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to identify, isolate, analyze and resolve problems. Computer knowledgeable in Microsoft word and excel. Must have the ability to multitask and work under pressure and deadlines. Must be able to establish priorities in work assignments. Must exercise good decision making and independent judgment. This is largely a sedentary role requiring the use of standard office equipment such as a calculator, computer, laptop, cell phone, phone(s), photocopier, filing cabinet and fax machine. Most work is completed in a corporate office environment. Employees must be able to sit for long periods of time, and type.
