DIRECTOR OF ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION, SOM

To provide leadership and coordination of all assessment and program evaluation initiatives across the medical education program leading to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. In collaboration with faculty and administrative stakeholders will support continuous quality improvement, accreditation compliance, and data-driven decision making throughout the curriculum.Description of DutiesResponsible for the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive assessment and evaluation strategies aligned with SOM education program mission, goals, and educational program objectives.In collaboration with program faculty and administration, oversees the design, administration, and analysis of student assessments, including examinations, surveys, observation protocols, scoring rubrics, simulation activities, and performance evaluations.Responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of assessment systems that measure student performance, curricular effectiveness, and the quality of the learning environment.Leads curricular assessment mapping to ensure alignment of foundational and clinical coursework with competencies, program objectives, and accreditation standards.Serves as a resource in educational measurement, assessment methodology, and program evaluation, and contributes to faculty development and scholarly activity within medical education.Plans and conducts evidence-based analysis (e.g., item analysis, benchmarking, minimum competency thresholds), shares results with stakeholders, and makes recommendations based on analyses. Develops and maintains longitudinal databases tracking student outcomes from acceptance through graduation and early career outcomes.Provides data and narrative support for accreditation reports (e.g., LCME, SACSCOC), internal reviews, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes.Identifies and recommends assessment strategies and instruments to improve student learning and program effectiveness.Collaborates closely with curriculum committees, clerkship directors, course directors, and educational leadership to support data-driven curricular revisions.Solicits, analyzes, and disseminates student feedback regarding courses, teaching, clinical experiences, and learning environment quality to determine areas of improvement.Ensures policies related to assessment, evaluation, remediation, and progression are current, compliant, and consistently implemented.Develops processes, policies, and procedures that exceed national accreditation standards for assessment and evaluation for all SOM education programs.Provides consultation and faculty development workshops on best practices in measurement, assessment methodology, and evaluation of SOM educational programs.Supports faculty scholarship including but not limited to study design, data analysis, publication support, related to assessment and evaluation.Participates in relevant committees, workgroups, accreditation task forces, and institutional initiatives and engages in regular professional development to remain current in assessment methodology, educational research, and accreditation compliance.Promotes and maintains a culture of continuous improvement, transparency, and data literacy across the medical education enterprise.Compiles and submits reports as required by management, state, local, and federal regulatory agencies.Performs personnel administrative functions (e.g. hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, providing professional development opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and ensuring department/program outcomes are achieved.Performs other duties as assigned.Supervision ReceivedGeneral supervision from assigned supervisor.Supervision GivenDirect supervision of assigned staff.Required EducationMaster's degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Psychometrics or related field from an accredited university.Preferred EducationTerminal degree (PhD, EdD, MD, or equivalent) in Education, Assessment/Measurement, Educational Psychology, Medical Education, Social Sciences, Health Professions Education, or related field from an accredited university.Licenses/CertificationsNone.Required ExperienceThree (3) years of experience in educational assessment program evaluation or managing assessment tools in competency-based medical education or psychometrics in a higher-education or health-professions environment, to include supervisory experience.Preferred ExperienceExperience working within a medical school curriculum (UME preferred).Prior involvement in LCME accreditation activities and documentation.Experience with curricular mapping and outcomes assessment platforms.Demonstrated record of scholarly activity in medical education, assessment, or evaluation.Experience conducting thematic analysis of narrative evaluations and qualitative data.EquipmentUse of standard office equipment. Proficiency with statistical software and data visualization platforms.Working ConditionsNeeds to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. Some travel and weekend work is required.
