Title: Long-Term Substitute: English as a Second Language Teacher .6 position Salary: $36,258.08 -$65,005.56 per CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) Qualifications:Certification in English as a Second Language at the elementary levelMaster's degree in ESL or related field preferredKnowledge of current theories of second language acquisition and developmentKnowledge of effective sheltered English immersion instructional techniques and current regulationsSEI EndorsementSuccessful completion of a criminal record (C.O.R.I.) check and fingerprint check. Reports To: Building Principal and Executive Director of Academics & Accountability Job Goal: The ESL teacher will provide direct English language development for students identified as English language learners in both the classroom and pull out settings to small and large groups of students at the elementary level. Instruction will support the acquisition of English through reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The ESL teacher will work with the principal and the classroom teachers to design instruction to meet the needs of English language learners. Work Year: Full Academic Year Salary/Benefits: In accordance with collective bargaining agreement Performance Responsibilities:Provide direct instruction in English language development to students identified as English language learners both in the classrooms and in pull out settings.Develop lessons to meet the individual English language needs of the students across the domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.Administer appropriate English language proficiency assessments and support staff in the analysis of results.Support the intake of English language learners in the district by completing language proficiency assessments across the domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Complete required documentation including parental notifications and communicate with parents to explain ESL program.Communicate with parents and families about the progress of their students. Facilitate communication between school and the parents of students in the ESL program.Meet on an ongoing basis with principal, classroom teachers, and other staff to share observations of English language learners' performance and progress. Provide resources and suggestions to staff for meeting the needs of English language learners within the structured English immersion setting.Maintain all required documentation for English language learners including intake and exit forms, parent notification, and assessments.Support the monitoring of students classified as formerly limited English proficient (FLEP) through the completion of required documentation and consultation with teachers and other staff.Collaborate with other ESL teachers to develop WIDA aligned curriculum. Collaborate with other curriculum specialists in insuring the needs of English language learners are met across all disciplines.Participate in professional growth opportunities.Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent. Essential Functions of the Job: Must possess the ability to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel, parents, and students.Communicate effectively with diverse population of students and parents.Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.Use appropriate instructional practices to support English language development across the domains of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.Ensure those strategies used support Melrose's curricula goals.Administer English language proficiency assessments.Maintain and organize required student documentation.
