Location: Springfield, IllinoisJob Type: Full-Time Academic (Assistant/Associate Professor)Practice Model: Employed (University-based) The Department of Surgery at Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine is seeking a fellowship-trained Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon to join our growing faculty. This is a premier opportunity for a surgeon‑educator to shape the future of musculoskeletal care in Central and Southern Illinois. Reporting to the Chair of Orthopedic Surgery, Michaela Schneiderbauer, MD, the successful candidate will balance a robust clinical practice with a commitment to teaching the next generation of surgeons and advancing the field through research. Description & Responsibilities Join an innovative academic environment where clinical excellence meets educational leadership. As a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, you will: Maintain a comprehensive pediatric orthopedic practice with surgical privileges at Springfield Memorial Hospital and HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital. Provide bedside and classroom instruction to medical students and orthopedic residents, utilizing the state‑of‑the‑art SIU Surgical Skills Training Center. Engage in clinical or basic science research supported by a culture of inquiry and the Memorial Learning Center. Play a pivotal role in expanding pediatric orthopedic services for a patient base of over 2 million people. Requirements MD or DO degree. Completion of an accredited Orthopedic Surgery Residency and a Fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery. Board‑certified or Board‑eligible in Orthopedic Surgery. Must be licensed (or eligible) to practice medicine in the State of Illinois. A passion for academic medicine, sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented populations, and a collaborative spirit.
