Job Summary The Product Design Engineer is an integral part of the Engineering department and is responsible for the specification, design, and technical support for production of Quantum’s range of hydraulic power units and ancillary equipment. Duties Provide research and analytical assessment of new products and innovations. Develop new concepts and existing products ensuring conformity to philosophy and look. Review working drawings to ensure all elements of designs, models, and detailing adhere to Quantum Standards. From concept briefs and research, prepare working specifications for new products (primarily hydraulic power units and associated equipment). Using 3D and 2D software tools create detailed design, manufacturing and assembly drawings. Coordinate the integration of the mechanical design with the electrical and control requirements. Create and define part numbers, assemblies and bills of material in the ERP system. Alongside the Production team, develop assembly procedures to ensure product build quality and consistency. Develop test procedures to verify the product meets performance standards. Provide technical support to Parts Department for the selection of parts and vendors. Provide engineering support to Commissioning, Warranty, and Service teams, to address project and product related issues and to interpret and relay pertinent information. Provide support with the development of technical manuals for Quantum products. Support key suppliers and partners, providing design feedback, standards, drawings and documentation to ensure integration into Quantum’s product. Investigate product failures, research and implement corrective actions and design improvements. Assist others in the development and research process. Maintain the highest engineering and ethical standards. Any and all duties as reasonably assigned. Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in any engineering discipline is required. Marine background and experience are preferred. 3 to 5 years of working experience in appropriate discipline is required. Ability to read, analyze, review, and interpret hydraulic, mechanical and other technical drawings, documents, regulations, and journals is required. Experience and proficiency of a 3D CAD software is required; SolidWorks or SolidEdge – preferred, knowledge is required. Proficiency in the following programs is preferred: MathCAD or MATLAB, Microsoft Dynamics or IFS, and Python. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required. Skills / Abilities Highly organized with good time management skills. Ability to multi-task and prioritize in order to meet tight deadlines. Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills with strong proof-reading/editing capabilities. Positive, inquisitive, proactive, and collaborative attitude with the ability to work well with all Company employees, customers, vendors, suppliers, and the general public. Maintain professional internal and external relationships that meet the Company core values.
