The On-Site Safety Manager is responsible for the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of all safety-related activities for a new paint shop addition at a General Motors facility in Arlington, Texas. This role serves as the primary safety liaison between the general contractor, subcontractors, and GM leadership, ensuring full compliance with General Motors safety standards, including SFMEA requirements, as well as all applicable OSHA regulations.The ideal candidate will have strong experience in industrial construction environments, particularly within automotive or manufacturing facilities, and a proven ability to lead safety initiatives in high-risk, fast-paced projects.Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Program ImplementationLead and enforce site-specific safety programs in alignment with GM requirements, including Safety Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (SFMEA).Ensure compliance with all applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and regulations.Integrate GM-specific safety policies (e.g., “Nothing Hits the Ground,” “Ladder Last”) into daily operations.Field Oversight & ComplianceConduct daily site safety audits, inspections, and observations across all trades.Monitor high-risk activities including confined space entry, energized systems, overhead work, and material handling.Enforce proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for all energy isolation activities.Pre-Task Planning & Risk MitigationReview and approve Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and lift plans.Ensure hazards are identified, documented, and mitigated prior to work execution.Participate in daily coordination meetings with project management and subcontractors.Incident ManagementMaintain accurate records of all incidents, near misses, and safety metrics.Interface with GM safety personnel and corporate leadership regarding incident reporting.Communication & LeadershipPromote a proactive safety culture through daily engagement with field personnel.Conduct toolbox talks, safety stand-downs, and ongoing coaching of crews.Work Environment & Physical RequirementsActive construction site within an operating automotive manufacturing facilityExposure to elevated work areas, confined spaces, and industrial hazardsMust be able to walk job sites daily, climb ladders, and wear required PPE at all times
