Middle School Volleyball Coach
Position OverviewBASIS Independent Manhattan is seeking an experienced, passionate, and visionary Middle School Girls’ Volleyball Coach to lead and elevate its volleyball program for students in grades 6–8. The ideal candidate is committed to building a strong, sustainable team culture grounded in discipline, accountability, skill development, and respect. This coach will take ownership of the program by establishing clear structure, fostering student-athlete growth, and promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and a genuine love for the game, while consistently upholding the values of BASIS Independent Schools with professionalism and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and lead age-appropriate practices that emphasize fundamental volleyball skills, team concepts, and physical conditioning
Prepare the team for games and competitions, including strategy, lineups, and in-game coaching
Foster a positive team culture that promotes respect, effort, accountability, and sportsmanship
Support the social, emotional, and athletic development of middle school student-athletes
Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, athletic staff, and school administration
Ensure student-athlete safety by following school policies, league rules, and best practices for supervision
Maintain attendance, participation records, and any required team documentation
Attend games, practices, meetings, and professional development sessions as required
Uphold and model the school’s mission, values, and code of conduct
Qualifications
Prior coaching or playing experience in volleyball preferred
Experience working with middle school–aged students strongly preferred
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Ability to teach fundamental volleyball skills in a supportive and engaging manner
Commitment to creating an inclusive and encouraging environment for all student-athletes
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to season start)
Time Commitment
Practices held after school, typically 2–4 times per week
Games scheduled on weekdays and occasional weekends during the season
Season length and schedule determined by the athletic department
