Utility Billing Clerk/Cashier

Job Overview A Utility Billing clerk manages customer utility accounts, collects and processes payments, and generates billing for utility services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Addresses and reconciles customer concerns and complaints. Collects and records payments. Distributes mail. Reconciles funds collected and deposits funds. Enters, edits, and maintains billing information; prepares and distributes bills. Tracks and returns deposits. Prepares and tracks data for reports to management, auditors, state and local regulatory authorities and other entities as required. Updates information in the cemetery module and prepares cemetery deeds. Assists with accounting functions of the City and prepares reports as needed. Other duties as assigned. Section 1: Minimum Job Requirements · Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. · Must have 2 years of experience in customer service. · Can clearly and concisely express ideas both orally and in writing to maintain effective working relationships with peers, other City department heads, appointed board members, and elected public officials. · Can demonstrate competency in utilizing general office equipment and software programs, including, but not limited to: using a ten-key adding machine; efficiently create and manipulate Word, Excel, Acrobat and other basic office software documents; and operating a copier/fax/printer. · A demonstrated ability to perform all tasks with a high level of professional conduct and a positive attitude. Section 2: Additional Job Requirements Utility Billing Clerk/Cashier must be able to work well within group or team setting but also work efficiently and independently. Communication skills both verbally and in writing are important to success in this position. Section 3: Preferred Qualifications · Post-secondary education or training in business, accounting, information technology, management, or a related field. · Experience in creating spreadsheets or databases for managing, analyzing and reporting data. · Ability to create and manipulate forms in Word, Publisher and Acrobat formats. · A demonstrated ability to utilize Microsoft Office software for managing office functions. · Experience with multi-user or server based accounting and bookkeeping software. · Exceptional work history in a professional office environment. Section 4: Physical Requirements This position regularly requires work that involves some combination of sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time but may occasionally require instances of climbing (stepstool or small ladders), crouching, squatting, pushing and pulling, and carrying or lifting items up to 25 pounds such as books, boxes, and other office supplies. Section 5: Working Conditions This position primarily works indoors in a regular office setting, but may experience occasional work in facility basements, storage areas, or other irregular settings as duties require. Section 6: Work Schedule This position primarily works 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday.
