Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and layout of low‑voltage systems, including:
Structured cabling (copper & fiber)
Telecommunications rooms and pathways
Physical security systems (access control, video surveillance, intrusion)
Produce and oversee construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit, including plans, details, risers, diagrams, schedules, and specifications
Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices (BICSI, TIA, ANSI, NFPA, etc.)
Review and redline drawings for quality, constructability, and coordination
Support project managers with technical input, scope definition, and design narratives
Serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior designers and engineers
Participate in design meetings, client reviews, and internal coordination sessions
Maintain and help improve company drafting and modeling standards
Assist with construction administration, including RFIs and submittal reviews, as needed
Required Qualifications
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit for low‑voltage system design
Strong working knowledge of telecom and security system design principles
Proven ability to independently develop permit‑ and construction‑ready drawings
Experience coordinating with multiple design disciplines on complex projects
Excellent attention to detail and document quality
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal oversight
Willingness to mentor, teach, and guide others
Understanding that interpersonal relationships drive success, not just technical knowledge
Strongly Desired Qualifications
RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification
PSP (Physical Security Professional) certification
Experience with:
Large or complex facilities (commercial, healthcare, higher education, mission‑critical, etc.)
BIM coordination workflows
Client‑facing technical leadership
Prior experience in a consulting or A/E environment
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Typically 5-7 years of progressive experience in low‑voltage / technology system design
Key responsibilities specific to CAD and/or Revit Library Management
Develop, maintain, and govern a standardized CAD block and Revit family library for telecom, security, and low‑voltage systems
Create and update system‑specific content, including:
Telecom outlets, racks, cabinets, and pathways
Security devices (cameras, card readers, panels, door hardware)
Low‑voltage symbols, diagrams, and details
Ensure all library content aligns with company drafting standards, BIM requirements, and industry best practices
Maintain consistent naming conventions, parameters, line weights, layers, and visibility settings across all library elements
Coordinate library standards with project BIM requirements and model coordination workflows, including file naming and model organization
Review and approve new or revised blocks/families before release to production teams
Update library content to reflect code changes, technology evolution, and manufacturer updates
Ensure CAD/Revit content supports construction‑ready documentation, including schedules, tags, and annotations
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to library performance, compatibility, or model stability
Train and support designers and engineers on proper use of library content
Enforce version control and prevent unauthorized or non‑standard content from entering production drawings
Coordinate with project teams to capture lessons learned and feed improvements back into the library
Periodically audit project files to ensure library standards compliance
Serve as the technical authority for low‑voltage CAD/BIM content across the organization
Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to BIM efficiency, automation, and standardization
Join our team to leverage your expertise in security system design while working on innovative projects that make a real difference. We value proactive problem-solvers who thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to push the boundaries of low voltage system engineering.
