Senior Designer / Engineer – Security & Low Voltage Systems (CAD and/or Revit)

Position Summary We are seeking a Senior Designer / Engineer with advanced CAD and/or Revit expertise to lead the design and documentation of security, and low‑voltage building systems. This role is responsible for technical execution across multiple project phases, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring designs meet industry standards, codes, and client expectations. The ideal candidate brings strong real‑world system knowledge, can independently develop construction‑ready documents, and provides technical leadership to junior staff. RCDD and/or PSP certification is strongly desired. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and layout of low‑voltage systems, including: Structured cabling (copper & fiber) Telecommunications rooms and pathways Physical security systems (access control, video surveillance, intrusion) Produce and oversee construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit, including plans, details, risers, diagrams, schedules, and specifications Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices (BICSI, TIA, ANSI, NFPA, etc.) Review and redline drawings for quality, constructability, and coordination Support project managers with technical input, scope definition, and design narratives Serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior designers and engineers Participate in design meetings, client reviews, and internal coordination sessions Maintain and help improve company drafting and modeling standards Assist with construction administration, including RFIs and submittal reviews, as needed Required Qualifications Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit for low‑voltage system design Strong working knowledge of telecom and security system design principles Proven ability to independently develop permit‑ and construction‑ready drawings Experience coordinating with multiple design disciplines on complex projects Excellent attention to detail and document quality Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal oversight Willingness to mentor, teach, and guide others Understanding that interpersonal relationships drive success, not just technical knowledge Strongly Desired Qualifications RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification PSP (Physical Security Professional) certification Experience with: Large or complex facilities (commercial, healthcare, higher education, mission‑critical, etc.) BIM coordination workflows Client‑facing technical leadership Prior experience in a consulting or A/E environment Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience) Typically 5-7 years of progressive experience in low‑voltage / technology system design Key responsibilities specific to CAD and/or Revit Library Management Develop, maintain, and govern a standardized CAD block and Revit family library for telecom, security, and low‑voltage systems Create and update system‑specific content, including: Telecom outlets, racks, cabinets, and pathways Security devices (cameras, card readers, panels, door hardware) Low‑voltage symbols, diagrams, and details Ensure all library content aligns with company drafting standards, BIM requirements, and industry best practices Maintain consistent naming conventions, parameters, line weights, layers, and visibility settings across all library elements Coordinate library standards with project BIM requirements and model coordination workflows, including file naming and model organization Review and approve new or revised blocks/families before release to production teams Update library content to reflect code changes, technology evolution, and manufacturer updates Ensure CAD/Revit content supports construction‑ready documentation, including schedules, tags, and annotations Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to library performance, compatibility, or model stability Train and support designers and engineers on proper use of library content Enforce version control and prevent unauthorized or non‑standard content from entering production drawings Coordinate with project teams to capture lessons learned and feed improvements back into the library Periodically audit project files to ensure library standards compliance Serve as the technical authority for low‑voltage CAD/BIM content across the organization Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to BIM efficiency, automation, and standardization Join our team to leverage your expertise in security system design while working on innovative projects that make a real difference.
