JOB TITLE: Conflict SpecialistFLSA STATUS: Non-ExemptSCHEDULE: 37.5 hours/week; M-FLOCATION: Any Spencer Fane OfficeREPORTS TO: Compliance CounselPOSITION SUMMARY:Under general supervision, the Conflict Specialist is responsible for assisting attorneys and other members of the firm with the new business intake process in line with firm policy and regulatory requirements. This role is heavily involved with conducting conflict of interest searches for legal and commercial conflicts pertaining to new and existing clients, on-going client monitoring, and performing other risk management procedures. In addition, the Conflict Specialist will help to reduce the firm's exposure to professional misconduct or loss of reputation by helping to enforce policy and procedure and encouraging best practice by case-handlers. This role requires a high level of confidentiality and professionalism with strong technology skills, and a commitment to extraordinary customer service.COMPENSATION: At Spencer Fane, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including but not limited to location, skillset, experience, training, licenses, certifications and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. We expect the hourly rate for this position to be between $29.50 and $38.50.BENEFITS: Medical, Vision, Dental, PTO, 401k, Life, Disability.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Report to the Conflict Counsel and assist in firm conflict management procedures.Where appropriate, escalating complex and sensitive conflict of interest issues to the Conflict Counsel or firm leadership.Effective analysis and communication of information in the firm’s conflict management systems.Ensuring the maintenance of the conflict database InTapp Open is current, accurate and complete.Assist in reporting conflict data from InTapp Open.Proactively communicate with members of the New Business Intake team on complex conflict questions and other compliance issues.Demonstrate good judgement and business awareness.Effective communication of firm processes and policies with attorneys and other members of the firm.QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, legal studies, paralegal studies, finance or related field preferred.Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a law firm or professional services environment, preferably conflicts, new business intake, risk management, or related function.A solid understanding and experience of dealing with conflicts of interests and other regulations and ethics requirements relevant to legal practice preferred.Technical Skills and Systems: Advanced skills with Microsoft Office preferred, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.Experience with iManage, Aderant, and InTapp Open preferred.Core Competencies: Excellent oral and written communication skills.Excellent organizational abilities.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Proactive, business style required.Ability to manage a workload from multiple projects simultaneously; remaining accurate and detail focused but able to work to tight deadlines and changing priorities.Administrative Skill: Typing speed of 60 wpm preferred.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Physical demand: Position is generally sedentary in nature; involves sitting most of the time but may involve the need for inter-office mobility for brief periods of time.Ability to occasionally or routinely lift up to 10 – 20 lbs.Communication: Ability to efficiently communicate.Manual Dexterity: Ability to perform repetitive motions required.Visual: Ability to see and read PC screens, detect color coding, read fine print, or standard type size print.DISCLAIMER:The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.
