Overview of the Position
The Design+Make+Engage Program: Making @ Park Day School
The Design+Make+Engage program engages students in exploring the designed dimensions of our world while identifying thoughtful ways to effect positive change. Systems thinking, perspective-taking, students’ interests, and problem-solving are at the heart of our projects. Environmental impact and craftsmanship are prevalent themes. In the Innovation Workshop, you’ll see us learning through our hands and eyes and demonstrating creativity, collaboration, and resilience.
A Middle School History Teacher is responsible for aspects of a progressive and integrated learning experience, including curriculum development, student advising, student assessment and parent communication. This position requires the ability to work collaboratively with the entire MS staff, teaming to support the students socially, emotionally and academically. The Middle school teachers work extremely close together to ensure program cohesiveness and continuity. There are two existing grade level curricula (no textbooks) for each grade and the teacher will be responsible for developing materials in response to current events, student interest, and learning styles. Preparing the students for the transition to a high school, your teaching program will be a core component of this role. We seek a vibrant teacher who brings creativity, innovation, and a social justice lens to their teaching practice.
The Innovation Workshop provides dedicated space, resources, and expertise critical to complex and authentic project-based curricular endeavors. In addition, the workshop ethos supports thinking and learning by providing:
A collaborative culture celebrating peer support, shared expertise, and leadership.
A culture in which process is valued alongside product.
An ethos mindful of materials conservation and a bias towards reuse/repair.
Traditional and new technologies and materials in a highly functional, safe space.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, STEM, Art, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience teaching or working with K-8 students in maker spaces, PBL environments, or other hands-on learning settings.
Strong understanding of systems-thinking and design-thinking pedagogies.
Proficiency with maker technologies such as 3D printing, robotics, coding, and digital fabrication tools.
Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
Passion for fostering creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking in young learners.

Compensation:
Salary and benefits will be based on qualifications, experience, and our established teacher salary step scale. Our compensation range is $66K-$100K. Benefits offered include employer-paid medical with Kaiser and Sutter health, dental insurance, a generous retirement plan and more.
