We are a small, collaborative engineering team focused on solving real problems with disciplined engineering and clear ownership.Job Summary:We are seeking a Sr. Embedded Software Engineer to develop and integrate software for small unmanned aircraft systems and associated subsystems. This is a hands‑on, product‑focused role spanning microcontrollers, RTOS‑based systems, and embedded Linux. The ideal candidate is a strong individual contributor who can work independently, contribute effectively from day one, and reason about software behavior across hardware and software boundaries. This role values system‑level awareness and the ability to participate meaningfully in architectural decisions while continuing to produce high‑quality embedded code.Job Duties & Responsibilities:Develop embedded software in C and C++ for microcontrollers, RTOS‑based systems (e.g., Zephyr or similar), and embedded Linux platformsDesign and implement core embedded constructs such as state machines, timing‑sensitive logic, and basic algorithmsIntegrate software across multiple interconnected processors and subsystems, including sensors, cameras, and payload devicesDevelop and maintain low‑level drivers and hardware interfacesWork with common embedded communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, and EthernetPerform system‑level debugging using tools such as logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and in‑circuit debuggersOwn features from initial design through implementation, integration, testing, and field supportContribute to system architecture and interface design in collaboration with other engineersBuild and maintain internal tools, test utilities, and automation, often using PythonJob Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree required5+ years of professional experience developing embedded software for production systemsStrong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded targetsExperience working across multiple layers of an embedded system, including MCU firmware, RTOS‑based software, and embedded LinuxSolid understanding of microcontroller peripherals and inter‑device communication protocolsDemonstrated ability to debug complex hardware/software interactions and resolve system‑level issuesExperience delivering reliable embedded software in a collaborative engineering environmentHelpful Experience (Nice to Have):Experience with UAS software stacks or autopilot systems, particularly PX4, including integration with sensors, payloads, or higher‑level system componentsExperience developing firmware for microcontrollers, including peripheral configuration and low‑level driver developmentExperience with real‑time operating systems such as Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or similarBoard bring‑up and low‑level hardware/software debugging experienceFamiliarity with STM32, NVIDIA Jetson, or similar embedded platformsExposure to UAS, robotics, or other complex embedded systemsApplicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.About Teledyne FLIR DefenseJoin Teledyne FLIR Defense, where we're dedicated to supporting critical missions with an exciting range of cutting-edge technologies.
