This includes overseeing restaurant operations, bar service, banquet and event functions, member dining experiences, financial performance, staff development, and service standards. The Food & Beverage Director plays a key role in creating an exceptional private club experience while ensuring operational efficiency, profitability, and alignment with the Club’s culture, mission, and standards of excellence.Distinguishing CharacteristicsThe ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who demonstrates exceptional hospitality, professionalism, and operational expertise. This individual must possess strong leadership, communication, financial management, and team development skills. The Food & Beverage Director must be able to thrive in a fast-paced private club environment while maintaining a high level of member satisfaction and service consistency.This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and club events.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesLeadership & OperationsDirect and oversee all food and beverage operations including dining outlets, lounges, banquet events, beverage programs, and special club functions.Ensure exceptional member and guest service standards are consistently maintained.Develop and maintain operating procedures and service standards for all food and beverage areas.Lead, coach, and develop department managers, supervisors, and hourly team members.Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment.Conduct regular staff meetings, training sessions, and performance evaluations.Collaborate with Club leadership to enhance the overall member experience.Financial ManagementDevelop and manage annual budgets for food and beverage operations.Monitor labor costs, food costs, beverage costs, and overall departmental profitability.Analyze financial reports and operational metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.Approve invoices, manage inventory controls, and oversee purchasing processes.Ensure proper cash handling procedures and internal controls are followed.Member Experience & Club EventsBuild strong relationships with club members and respond promptly to concerns or feedback.Work closely with the Events and Membership teams to ensure successful execution of club events, tournaments, weddings, and private functions.Assist in developing creative dining experiences, seasonal menus, and member programming initiatives.Maintain high standards of cleanliness, ambiance, and presentation throughout all food and beverage areas.Beverage & Culinary OversightPartner with the Executive Chef to develop menus, pricing strategies, and food presentation standards.Oversee beverage operations including wine, beer, liquor inventory, and bar programming.Ensure compliance with all South Carolina alcohol laws and food safety regulations.Maintain relationships with vendors and negotiate pricing where appropriate.Compliance & SafetyEnsure compliance with all health, safety, sanitation, and employment regulations.Promote a culture of workplace safety and accountability.Ensure employees complete required certifications and training programs.Maintain proper staffing levels and scheduling practices in accordance with business needs.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.Minimum of 5 years of progressive food and beverage leadership experience required.Private club or country club experience strongly preferred.Strong understanding of restaurant operations, banquet service, and beverage management.Proven experience managing budgets, labor, and inventory controls.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.Strong leadership and team development abilities.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and point-of-sale systems.Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods of time.Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.Ability to work in a fast-paced hospitality environment.Ability to effectively communicate with members, guests, and employees in person and by phone.Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a hospitality and private club environment that includes dining rooms, banquet spaces, kitchens, bars, patios, and office settings.
