School Nurse RN
The Reece Upper School provides a highly academic special education program for children who need more support than can be provided in a traditional public school setting.
Position facilitates positive student responses to normal development; promotes health and safety; intervenes with actual and potential health problems; provides case management services and actively collaborates with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management and learning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains a complete, up-to-date health record system using available technology.
Plans and conducts screenings, examinations and health appraisals following state law and district policy.
Monitors newly enrolled students to ensure that state law and district policy are implemented concerning health issues (e.g., immunization, medical records, etc.)advises and counsels students, staff and parents as appropriate.
Makes referrals to school resources and/or community agencies as necessary.
Serves as a consultant and resource person in health instruction and curriculum planning.
Provides first aid when needed.
Refers students with suspected disabilities to the appropriate district specialist.
Facilitates health appraisals for pupils referred to the Child Study Team.
Participates in Child Study Team deliberations when applicable.
Administers medication in accordance with state law and district policy.
Makes health and safety recommendations to the principal when necessary.
Participates in conducting health-related seminars for staff.
Communicates health-related student issues to parent/guardians, professional staff, and various community-based organizations.
Keeps abreast with trends in the field of nursing.
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Currently licensed as a regular professional nurse in the state of New York.
Certification as a school nurse or working on certification in accordance with state law and regulation.
Minimum of two years of successful experience as a nurse or school nurse.
The ability to organize work assignments.
The ability to communicate and interact effectively with students, staff, and administrators.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
